Nose work

Angus is pretty in tune with his sense of smell. We play scent games around the house and he's getting better and better at them. He's also a problem solver and loves puzzles. So, I decided to enroll him in an intro to nose work class. He's currently on the waitlist, but hopefully next month he will be in an actual class.

Has anyone else done nose work with their dogs? If so, how did it go?

Whaich type mastiffis he? Jade and Odi are Boerboels and have such a keen sense of smell I am wondering why I don't see bunches of BB owners doing scent/nose work with them.

Angus is a mastiff/pit bull mix (from what I have been told). I am not sure what type of mastiff he is. I was just told that his dad was a mastiff (never saw his dad myself). Also, he's only 11 months old, so he's still growing and filling out. There is a recent picture of him in the introduction forum with a thread titled "New Member from BC" if you have any input as to what he might be! haha

We have done a scent class. It was a bit of work for me to get the reward timing down but it was fun and our Corso did as well as the other first timers. My only downside was it wasn't much of an energy burn for the dog. The supplies to do it are cheap( except the real scent boxes but our trainer used cut out cardboard) are pretty readily avalible. There are even kits. We now just do it as an around the house game. We might do more once we're done with her obedience training.

Yeah, when weighing my options I really considered something that would burn more energy. Angus is SO accident prone though, I worried that putting him in something more physically challenging would just end up in him being injured again.
