Newbie looking for Breeder Recommendations in PA/NJ/DE area

Hi everyone,

I thought I joined this board before, but I guess I didn't :)

My name is Dolores and I've been an English Mastiff lover for well over 5 years. I've never owned one, but I'm hoping that I will in the coming months.

I'm taking my time researching, asking questions and preparing myself and my budget (LOL) for my forever furry friend.

I've been Googling for the past few years and there are many breeders, but I want only the best.

Can any of you help me?

Thank you...I'm looking forward to continue learning about the EM (I have my book to re-read at lunch today) and hoping to be a mommy before the year ends.

Welcome aboard. Can't help you on great EM breeders in that part of the country. All I can offer is research very carefully, get references, visit the breeder, contract, etc. If you were lokking for a Cane Corso breeders there are several that I could recommend. Remember, buy the breeder first, and then the pup. Also, have a drool rag always with you.

Thank you for your response. I had a former co-worker who was in the dog show world, and she worked closely with a few Bullmatiff breeders.
She recently advised me to make contact with this breed - Anthracite Aullmastiffs in PA http://anthracitebullmastiff.com/.

I remember finding them on the AKC and a few others sites, so I'm thinking about contacting them.

Does anyone else have any information about this breeder?

Let me do some digging. I'll get back to you.

It looks like Charlie & Cheryl Kistler get their studs from Jean Robinson of Leatherneck Bullmastiffs. Leathernecks are descendants of Bandog Bullmastiffs, who were 1/2 owned by Jean Robinson. They produced some of the greatest bulls the AKC has seen. So Anthracite obviously works at improving the breed, not just making money (which we know is a lost cause). They are respected in the bullmastiff community.

OMG, Jean is the one who referred me (through a coworker) to Charlie.

I actually emailed him and got a response the first time. He referred me to a friend since he wasn't having pups until the fall, and I emailed back saying I wanted to wait for his litter since I wasn't ready until then as I expressed in my original email. Haven't heard back.

Posted a message on this board and another asking why he didn't respond to my second email and I was advised of so many things. But I got the impression from some posters I went about it wrong, which I didn't know. I didn't know I should have asked to speak with him more about the breed and not just say off the bat I wanted to put a deposit on a puppy. If I had, I wouldn't have done that.

I haven't heard back from him since Wednesday so I emailed him to apologize and tell him I didn't know the proper route of how to start discussion of learning more about him, his descendants, etc. I DIDN'T KNOW. I DIDN'T KNOW. I've never done this before.

And I still haven't heard from him. So I was advised to call. He probably still doesn't want to hear from me even i I did call and apologize :(

My mistake it wasn't a Jean, it was a Kathy Hoffman who referred me (through a coworker) to Charlie. I will try and call him today when I get in from a meeting. And he referred me to a Carrie.
