New to Cane Corso

Hi Everyone, I'm a long time dog owner first time Cane Corso owner. In the past I've owned Shepards and most recently Boxers... I lost my boxer about 9 months ago and considered not getting another dog until much later in life. Due to the amount a time required to get a puppy off to a good start. However with COVID I'm home much more than I thought I would be so I decided why not get another puppy.

After much research I decided on a Corso, who is not 3 months old, because with proper upfront care and training their temperment can be a lot like a Boxer. So far, I'm not finding that to be the case. The Boxer is much more easy going and a lot less stubborn, and so far I think the Boxer catches on quicker, but that could be the stubbornness of the CC.

During my research I constantly read about how the CC is really eager to please his/her owner... my puppy can careless unless treats are involved.. otherwise I save my breath with whatever command I'm giving. Don't get me wrong we and the puppy are bonding well, he does well with Recall, Sit, Down, Shake (Paw), and Place, however I better have treats in hand or I might as well be speaking a foreign language.

On the plus side, I will say, the CC had far fewer accidents in house than the Boxer, and crate training was just as easy with the CC.

Before I go, I have one questions: What's with this breed and sticks? All dogs teeth as puppies, but this puppy will pick up a stick (tree branch) and just walk around with it in his mouth)

Thanks for reading, and thanks for all of the good advice I've head hear so far

Wow, I would never have said a cc was like a boxer.
There are pros and cons on both sides, the cc and the boxer, and every individual dog is different. A few times in our lives we get an unforgettable dog, which is irreplaceable.
I think just focus on your baby, keep using food to reward. There are schools of thought that believe that "obedience training" needs to be spiced up a lot for the dog throughout its life, can you imagine someone telling you what to do, and there being nothing in it for you?
The more positive reinforcement you use now, the deeper the body memory for the dog. Your relationship with your dog is the most important thing. Anyway, that's just how I feel...
My boy is 2 now, he is so eager to ease, but this doesn't mean he isnt stubborn sometimes,, I also use toys, fast movement, sticks, play for training. I also use a clicker.
