Welcome aboard~ I agree, introduce them on neutral ground. Even though your present pup is socialized, it's a new family member coming into her home. Puppies require a lot of attention and training. Are you crate training? Puppies who are 8 weeks old, need to potty about every 2-3 hours Get ready for wee hours of the morning for potty breaks.
Wherever the new pup sleeps, be sure to give them a blanket with a stuff animal to snuggle with. They are used to sleeping with their siblings. It also helps to put a ticking clock near them or something with white noise. Someone commented on here on a previous post that they were going to have to get their new pup their own Ipod.
Start training in a few days after the arrival. Start with sit. Work for about 5 minutes a day and remember to reward with a treat. Do one command at a time until it is mastered, then move onto another command. Teach focus/look at me, sit, stay, come, and leave it.
DDB's are extremely stubborn but they want to please you. If you yell at them, they will shut down and be even more stubborn.
To get the pup used to the leash, let the pup wear it around the house, dragging it around with them.
For new mastiff pups, it's best to not let them jump or climb too many stairs until they are a few months old to prevent premature injury to their bones.
Mastiffs are generally allergic to chicken and grain in kibble. Mastiff pups should eat regular giant breed food not puppy food. Check out dogfoodadvisor.com for kibble suggestions.
It's also advisable to not neuter a mastiff until they are 18-24 months old, despite what your vet may tell you.
Hope that helps...
