Neo mastiff doing IPO or PSA

I started obedience training with my Neo at 4 months, then at 7 months we stiffed focus to PSA Training.

I recently changed trainers and my new trainer who has 10+ years experience over my last one thinks that my Neo would be better suited doing IPO . My boy just is 13 months old now and has impressed both trainers with his high drive and great bite work as well as his focus at this stage.

I'm very interested in hearing what other people's experiences have been if any in training their Neapolitan mastiff in protection sports. I know a lot of Corso's do PSA and IPO but no other mastiff type breeds.

Here's a few pics of Kaiser doing bite work and focus heeling

I have no experience with this, but I think it's awesome that you're doing it. Kaiser looks great!

IPO can be completed through conditioning. It can be a learned sport, solidified through routine/patterns. Weak nerved dogs can pass and title in IPO. Some would argue PSA requires stronger nerves and is more taxing mentally on the dog. Breed and individual stability would be the kicker here.

It's all dependent on the individual. Training my neo based bandog in PSA as well. Reactivity is diff in bully breeds and getting them to engage the decoy requires a slightly diff training method.

If your decoy/trainer has experience in bully breeds that may explain their recommendation towards IPO instead of PSA.

The primary motivators in bully breeds is entirely different than herders. IPO structure is easier to train to off breeds. But what's most important is the decoys/trainer familiarity with training bully breeds.
