What I've gotten a few times is:

Them: "What breed is that?"
Me: "Cane Corso."
Them: "My friend has a CAIN Corso that looks kinda like that."
Me: "They're the same breed, just a different pronunciation."
Them: "No, I think a CAIN Corso (is brindle/larger/doesn't have cropped ears)"
Me: "... Okay"

I think folks would rather make up a new breed than admit they've been pronouncing it wrong!

This makes me smile:lolbangtable:

I admit sometimes I do say it wrong, though I'm getting better, compliment via site. Most folks tell me they have a CAIN Corso though.

Now that I know how I'm supposed to say Kahn-a Corso... (love that explaination Ruthcatrin!)

... is it a Pr-EEE-sa Canario or a Pr-AAA-sa Canario?

What if we just said "corso" :) ? In italy if someone says "i have a corso" everyone gets that
Lol, that is usually what I say :)
I have gotten Kane or King Corso from ppl, many from folks who have one that they go from "some guy on 22x" (highway here ;) )
I used to try to educate, but now mainly I just smile, nod and continue on. If they seem genuinely interested and want to learn, I don't correct them I just say it properly then explain that Cane means dog in Italian.

hahaha i love it when people who have surface level knowledge of the breed try to educate me about my dog. I had a lady in the vets ask me "what mix is she?"
i told her that Stella is a purebred Cane Corso. She insisted that stella was a rottie mix. Then she told me that cane means meat in spanish so that must have something to do with the mix she is..... I gave up....

I remember when I was talking to various breeders and one of them instantly told me that we were on the right track because I already knew how to pronounce the name properly. He told me to immediately hang up on any breeders that say "we got some nice looking KAINS" lol.

What's sad is I now know how to say it properly but it's about training my mouth to say it right. I have to think about it before I say it & I almost sound like I have a studder. I practice saying it fast sometimes when no one is around. LMAO.

Ahahah guys yoi made me laugh :) anyway i think the best thing to do is just say it the proper way without correcting people on purpose...they won't be willing to correct themselves though

I agree. I do what BlackShadow does, I only correct people who some a sincere interest in the breed (potential owners). I mainly want them to know that they should't get a dog from a breeder who can't say the name correctly. Or I will have someone tell me nice Kain corso, and i will say ya, I love "kay-nah corsos". lol

That's great.

From now I am just going to say he's a Corso con Carne. He's raw fed, so it works.
