So we adopted a mastiff that 3in a kill shelter, we usually have small dogs but this is our first mastiff. So he is under weight. We are feeding him 4 cups of purina pro plan and to fatten him up also giving him 2 cans of wet pro plan. He has been neglecting his dry food . He is 2 to 3 years old and weighs 105. We took him to the vet and got all his shots up to date and his heartworm treatment is in process. So hes good. Trying to be responsible parents. But cant understand why he is not eating his dry food. And looking for ways to help him get his weight back to normal. Any suggestions? We really love him and are doing everything we know of but we are hoping someone here can advise us. Thank you in advance.

Hi
Sometimes they just don´t want to eat the dry food, especially if they also get other types of food.
So, maybe you can use the wet food as a topping and mix it up with the dry food, so it becomes "scented" (don´t know if this is the proper word). With luck, he will take it all
Another thing I do once in a while is using olive oil (natural/virgin) as a topping. It is very good for their coat and usually helps them to eat (as a southern european I am used to olive oil in... everything, but my dogs seem to love it too).

I also give them 1 egg per week on top of the dry food. They gurge the food at lightning speed...

I agree with what Joao M said. Back when I used to foster we used Satin Balls for emaciated dogs. There should be recipes available online and they really do help with weight gain. It's something you could mix with the dry food and most dogs like them.

I put a can of Sardines with olive oil topped with broccoli in my Rotticorso’s dinner every night.
Also mix two table spoons of yogurt with his breakfast. (Something to try)
