  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

My female killed another coyote this morning.

Her second in about 4 months. She was out making rounds on our property and I heard the sound of a dog fight. It was over before I could get there...not that she needed my help.

Did you leave the body?
That is usually enough to deter other coyotes from coming back

Hope she didn't sustain any injuries and is up on her rabies shots! That would make me a nervous wreck.

Yup, a Fila. And, yea, she is up to date.

The first time three of them, younsters based on the body left behind, tried to pack up on her. She literally ripped the throat off one and the other two took off.
This time there was one; about 45lbs or so I would guess.

That's AWESOME!! Not to sound like a sicko, but I'd love to see that on video. Those damn coyotes are usually the ones terrorizing other animals.

My Filas work and hunt also. Coyotes are not recognized by working dogs as canines, they are a threat. They are also nasty disease infested animals, so thanks for thinning the pack.

Out here they're nuisance animals too. No permit required if they're harassing you or your animals. Oscar's no Fila, but I'd like to think he could hold his own against a 'yote. That was part of our motivation in seeking a large dog: coyotes and bears out here, and a farmer down the road kicked up a cougar when he was mowing hay. Nice to know you've got the firepower! Congratulations to your girl :)

Would love to se pics. Mostly because a Coyote will only engage if it is deemed a food source. I see hounds that are as fast as all get out running Coyotes and the Coyote will stop and wait, as if it were a game. That is why Coyotes have been introduced all over the south to stock fox pens. Then they get out of the pens, pack up and reproduce. They kill young deer, smaller turkeys, calves, etc. etc. Three of them if hungry enough may pack up on a dog but none would stay and fight. And one choosing fight over flight would be few and far between. And if flight is chosen there is not a Fila on the planet that could run him down. Sounds internet to me. But a nice story nonetheless. S.

Nope,a bit more than a nice story. And I've seen coyotes pack up on greyhounds (hardly a food source) trying to entice them in to an 'unfair' fight. They tried it with her and it didn't turn out in their favor.

Top notch. Kona has never had the chance for big game but she sure loves taking care of the feral cats. hahahahaha. She trees a cat at least twice a week and weve had more than one dead

I wondered that too...if they were nasty or smart or what. Animal behavioral folks at Colorado State U told me years ago that they were mostly smart. According to them, the coyote knows a single coyote won't be able to take down a bigger animal. So, the coyote(s) will often tag team on bigger animals, hoping to use one coyote to lure the bigger animal into a pincher type trap wherein two or more coyotes are nearby. The first coyote lures the bigger animal into the trap and the others have at it.

In my case, I have a very large bird pen where I keep some game birds and chickens. It had a hole (coyote made) near the gate and the coyotes got in there and had their way with a couple of chickens. I let her in and she did the rest.

We had coyotes on our property about a year ago. The female I thought was a golden retriever at first. It was so orange and looked perfectly groomed. A very healthy specimen. At the time I had an older 85 pound solid chocolate lab. The coyote was easily 6 inches taller than my lab. My son saw the male later, looked more like a wolf than a coyote. It was much more grey and even larger than the female. They wanted no part of my dog, but made it clear that they were not afraid of him at all either. We could hear them howl at night, and we would find deer bones often. When we had to put my lab down few months ago, part of the reason for the choice to get a CC was to keep my kids safe while playing in the yard.

Hard to immagine the my fearful little pup being much of a protector, but I know that day is coming, and it is also nice to hear how well your dog fared against them.

Coyotes are very smart. They will send a female coyote thats in heat into the edge of a town to get male dogs to follow it back out and then the pack kills and eats those dogs. At the same time they mate with dogs and these are called coys or coydogs which often look like full blooded coyotes. Coydogs are not afraid of humans and will attack as will sick coyotes. They are nasty animals because of the many diseases they carry. Dogs that are not properly immunized can get deadly diseases from just touching their nose to coyote feces. Only good coyote is a dead one.
