I think that is the most important thing I want to see! I see so many dogs that do it because they have to but they don't really look to be enjoying it. I want to be something fun and not kill the enjoyment of the exercise.

Many trainers train the focus thru compulsion but using compulsion should only be used if the animal knows his command(s) but doesn't want to do it, then it needs to be brought in. But this will still break spirit in a dog.
By teaching thru positive to teach it, negative to fix it and positive to mark it you get a well balanced dog who desires to work for you!

Hi Deb - I just watched the videos and so this is how we start with Jagger then? Practise the Focus Heel. Are there more videos then or just the three on this post. We have located the original owner and when she gave him away 3 months ago he was happy adjusted, no spooks. Not sure what the people did to make him so scared but some days he is better walking outside, others he is terrified by every car that goes by and every sound outside he hears. So inside the house you said to just ignore his spooks for the first 2 weeks. Does this mean to not expose him to the spooks, i.e. don't sweep in front of him, etc. or do we go about our normal business while we ignore his spooks? I feel a lot better knowing where he came from, am looking for a good prong collar to start walking him with.

Sunnydays, just practice the focus until you have it like he is worshiping you. Bc once he is like that he is basically asking what's next. After you have it them you can apply to your left or right side (which ever side you are walking your dog on) once the same look is applied then you are off on your focus heeling walk ..
I only posted those videos bc it shows the basic on how to get your focus. I wish I could apply more video and training advice but unfortunately it can not happy on this site.
Once you get the prong let me know as ill explain to you how to properly put it on and use it. Might want to just PM me.
It is awesome you know some basics of his life and yes sounds like a few holes but all can be worked on so let's get started :)

Deb you are more than welcome to post whatever training threads and videos you want so I don't know why you say that you can't.

I don't think any rudeness was directed at your posting training information but at you having your own section of the forum. This thread seems like it's been very well received and helped several members so I imagine any future threads would most likely have the same impact.
