Kryten's New Coat

Kryten does not handle heat well. Anything over 20C outside and he becomes unwilling to do anything outside, he still asks inside but changes his mind once he gets outside. Unfortunately it's that warm by 8 am right now and this summer is being predicted to be a hot one.
I looked into getting a cooling jacket but the largest I found had a max head opening of 25". His neck is 33" and his head is bigger. Since he clearly wouldn't fit I decided to make him one. It's still a work in progress, once it dries I think I'm going to add pockets for ice packs. I did a trial run with just cool tap water this morning (it was 26C so above his comfort range) and while he still was hot there was a noticeable temperature difference between the fur on the top of his head and on his back, he also wanted to go for the walk. He is also recovering faster than normal once back inside too.

It was an old terry/fleecy sheet. I was looking for something that would hold a bit of water and was light colored to reflect the sun.

Pretty cool idea. Kryten is so handsome. Ruger doesn't handle the heat well either. He is definitely an air conditioner dog and doesn't usually go out during the day much but will go out for awhile after the sun goes down. I don't walk either of mine in the summer, we just play more games and get more exercise at home during the summer because here in Florida it is just too hot and the and and pavement is too hot for them to walk on. I do still take them to work but I turn the air on in the truck and let it cool down before I put them in on either end and shuffle them straight inside when we get back. Magnum doesn't really mind the heat but he doesn't know when to say when and will allow him self to overheat, left to is own devices besides the fact that his lack of pigment makes him burn so easy.

We have the same problem here in AZ. We put them out to play at around 5am and then take them for a walk around 7. After that the only thing they go outside for is to potty.
