Italian Mastiff with Demodex

How bad is this case of demodex?

  • I'd say you're headed to recovery.

My dogs had demodex for 7 months now, initially was diagnosed by a vet and prescribed oral ivomec. I took him off the medication almost a month in, he was very drowsy, i was unhappy with the way it was affecting his personality. I've cut all grain out of his diet, and have been applying nu-stock and some pro antibiotic scar healing creams to the effected areas.

It seems to have improved after we cut the grain out of his diet appx 2 months ago.

In the pictures below, i've trimmed the affected areas to expose them, as i was told the hair provides breeding conditions.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kane is 1 year and 6 months. thank you..

I think you are doing the right thing. Usually these parasites will go away once the immune system is higher. When trimming use tweezers and a good magnifier and grab the hair by the follicle. The are very easy to see, if you can't get all in one shot dispose the initial tweezers. I seen worse. So your cc will be fine.
