Input on breedings

We are planning to add a female bullmastiff to our family, hopefully sooner rather than later :) and are looking at these breedings. We are really hoping Gaffle will have a girl for us, the litter is due very soon! I have found out that the BM world is very small, and Kathy at Gaffle Bullmastiffs is very well respected and we've been pointed back in that direction a few times, our fingers are permanently crossed!

We are pretty new to researching breeders and pairings, any thoughts from those more experienced are welcome!

Dam - GAFFLE'S GRANDE DAME VIVIAN WESTWOOD GOLD LABEL
Sire - ON-IT'S BOMBITO VICENTE YOUNG

Sire - Bastion's Ruff Rider O'Waters
Dam - Solo-K's Too Hot to Handle

Sire - dal Primo The Jester of NV
Dam - Solo-K's Light My Fire

Sorry BM's are my breed but check health screens and double check OFA results online or ask to see reports if PennHip.Talk to previous owners if they are willing to give them out and if at all possible get out to see the dogs in advance of taking one home.

I don't know about BMs ... so, what I'm going to say is more general in nature:

See the dogs in person before deciding anything.

Double check any claims they make (parentage, testing, CH status, etc.).

Ask around about temperament issues. Some lines have problems, some done.

I am only familiar with Dal Primo. The other breeders must not show very much in FL. Dal Primo dogs are currently very popular in the show ring, she works very hard at breeding & showing. I attended a seminar a couple of years ago on breeding, & she impressed me with her intelligent questions and conversation. She definitely knows her stuff, and her dogs prove it in the ring. Good luck; I'm sure you'll do fine with any of them. Make sure you put up LOTS of pics of your new puppy when you get him or her.

That't what I've gathered about Dal Primo - when I spoke with the breeder from Solo K, she was VERY excited about this pairing. However, we decided to go with Gaffle Bullmastiffs and were just informed that puppies were born on 4/15! As long as the final interview goes well and there is a good match for us, we will get our puppy! If not, then I think we will look again at the Dal Primo X Solo K breeding.

What I really like about the Gaffle breeding is that both sire and dam are CHIC certified, the dam is a conformation champion and the sire is a working service dog. This should be a litter with outstanding temperment and enough drive without being too hard for a first time BM owner.

Are you on the Rottweiler forum as well? We are getting our new Bullmastiff in about 3 weeks. I can't wait!! I looked at tons of breeeders before we decided on this litter :)
