Horrible breed discrimination advice??

Wondering how some people here have dealt with nightmare breed discrimination with their corso. I could tell dozens of crazy, and quite frankly unbelievable stories of blatant discrimination against her because of her breed, but I will try to keep my examples short.

For background: I have a 3 y/o female cane corso that I rescued at 11 months. I did extensive training with her and still reinforce that training every week to this day. She has never had any negative incident in her life with me. She is friendly and loving of all people, dogs, other animals, anything. Not to toot my own horn but I am complimented constantly on how well behaved she is by people who can appreciate her breed and not judge at first sight. So any discrimination against her that I am listing below is 100% purely because of what she looks like.

Recently I moved into a new apartment that has an "in-house" doggy day care. I work in the office during the day, so I figured this would be perfect to have her be taken care of and play with dogs at this day care while I am out working. To my surprise, the VERY first day I brought her down to enroll her, the day care employee at the front desk told me he's already heard of her because other dog owners at the apartment complex came to tell him "if that cane corso starts coming to day care, I will be taking my dog somewhere else... It's not safe here if there's a cane corso". I was stunned to hear such a thing, and the day care employee said the same... He was shocked that owners would say that without even knowing the dog! He let her in anyway, as she has never had any incident so they couldn't deny her. Flash forward a few weeks and at that point he had completely fallen in love with her. They have seriously become the best of friends... but just last week he called me and said the actual OWNER of the day care has decided to ban my dog!! I asked what possibly happened to provoke that and he told me that the owner told him too many other dog parents had complained about a cane corso being in the day care with their smaller dogs.... so mine has to go. but wait. it gets worse....

This employee who has become best friends with my dog, lets call him Mike. Mike revealed to me who the dog parents were that called.....and to my surprise its the parents of the most untrained, out of control, reactive dogs I have ever laid my eyes on. Seriously... these dogs behave as though they have mad cow disease. Apparently the owners of said dogs claim that my dog triggers aggressive reactions in their dog because their dog is scared of cane corso's. HUH?? My dog has been scared plenty of times and has never reacted inappropriately. What on earth?!?!?

The employee felt so bad that the owner kicked my dog out, he literally offered to come walk her for free while I worked because he fell so in love with her. We were both so shocked. Now my dog goes to a day care where large breeds are appreciated, but my life in this apartment complex is hell. It is the most backwards thing I've ever seen. Dog owners of terribly behaved dogs complain about my perfectly well behaved dog because of what she looks like.... all while their dog has never received a day of training in its life. How can this be!!! I could understand if my dog had acted aggressively, or if she was misbehaved in any way, shape, or form.... but she never has and I have worked very hard to create structure and good training for her to be a well behaved, confident dog.

Ultimately it is really heart breaking to work so hard on training a dog, and be successful, only to have that work dismissed by owners of the some of the most terribly trained dogs I have ever seen. I believe people should get dogs if they are prepared to train them and take on the responsibility of their dogs behavior. Unfortunately, many people in this building get dogs as accessories, and training is not part of the picture. As a result, my dog has been out casted from everything due to their judgement.

How do you deal with this as owners of "bully breeds" as they call them??? I find it really challenging when people who have put no work into their dog have the audacity to say and do these things to my dog because of her breed. Any advice is appreciated. I am really devastated.

Meanwhile, my dog gets report cards from this new day care (that accepted her after she was banned from the apartment one), and they say nothing but the most positive things. Once again, they compliment me up and down on her demeaner. Yet when we get back to the apartment its as if she eats children for breakfast and is the most vicious animal to walk this earth. Ugh.

Im so sorry you and your girl are having to endure this awful treatment, but im afraid these people are in the majority.
They see these dogs as the instigater of trouble and aggression, yesbyou get some that are, but that isnt for the majority, iv owned 4 now, iv had my eldest that was dog aggressive with dogs he didnt know, but as a responsible dog owner i made sure he never attacked another dog,
Over here in the uk, they are now banned from a lot of holiday camp sites, this is all because of bad breeding, lack of the owners knowledge in the breed, they get them for a status dog.
The amount of times when we are walking our boys and other dogs are straining and barking at our boys is unreal, all the owners say is, they will eat you if you get off, or why do you have dogs like that, yes i get angry, but i dont show it, i calmly say what my dogs thet are sat calmly, fully trained, waiting for you the untrained owner of a poor dog that doesnt know what to do. The look on there faces is priceless,
You will never educate these people, all you can do is hold your head up high, you are the better person, you are the better owner, and your girl shines because of this.
I feel fot you i really do, and after some time you will get to how i am, i used to get so angry, id be arguing with them, not anymore.
All you can do is protect your girl, you dont want her in a place where other owner think shes bad,
Walk your girl with pride, keep doing what your doing, then shut your door and forget about the flluffy brigade, they will soon get bored of being arseholes and move on to the next topic to keep them going.

Not sure why'd they be on a Corso's case. No real reason for it. The general public knows fuck all about dogs though, so it's to be expected.
I mean if the Corso did get angry at a smaller dog nipping at it it'd be bad. My friend had a 75% Nea Mastiff Bandog and that dog pinned an aggressive Golden Retriever down with his paws without biting it, and a surely Staffordshire Bull Terrier almost got killed by that Nea because the Nea registered it as a threat. Your Corso may be a similar case, so if a serious small dog (staffbull, jagd, patt, maybe even a big jack) got onto its case it could be hurt. It's a valid concern, but also not reasonable with such a well-trained dog and it shouldn't be allowed to occur in a day care.
The saying is a corso wont start a fight but they sure can finish one, i find a lot of dog owners are in fear of my corsos, but thats mostly the ones that havent put any training into the dogs,

Yeah, they can indeed finish a fight. Any bull breed vs non-bull breed fight will usually be a blowout. For example a Cane Corso could easily kill 2 German Shepherds within 2 minutes tops. The exceptions would be dogs like Airedale Terriers, I seen a guy on a forum say that one of the worst fights he seen was an Airedale Terrier vs American Bulldog.
Now, dogs are inherently very combative, they kill each other all the time on the street, including feral dogs. If a dog is well-trained and socialized, it won't start anything. What it will do if it registers another dog as a threat, is defend itself. And such a strong combat dog defending itself renders its opponent doomed usually. Then it relies totally on the bull breed's self control.
Training your dog is a must, people who don't do it set their dogs up. If you don't train your dog, and instead are afraid of a certain type because YOUR dog might cause problems, if anything does happen you have injured/killed your dog.

Thank you so much for your response... this is my EXACT situation!! The owners of terrible dogs just make jokes about how my dog will "eat their dog for breakfast", while their dog is practically strangling itself to get off the leash and going completely mad. My dog is very calm in situations like these, so I do exactly what you described. I have her sit and observe the other dog calmly, while the other dog is going absolutely nuts and its owner has zero control.

It's so crazy to me that people think it is acceptable to get a dog and allow it to behave however it pleases. Chihuahua or Cane corso, I don't care the size. Every dog deserves to be trained and have structure and confidence that allows it to navigate social settings appropriately. If it isn't able to do that, then the owners should be aware and make necessary adjustments like you responsibly did.

It is tough having the well behaved and trained dog be treated like a crazy one, while the untrained dog is viewed as the helpless baby scared of corsos... sigh. Thanks for your advice though, I appreciate it a lot. I live in Boston and have never met another Cane Corso before in three years around here, so I haven't been able to express this to people who really understand like other responsible corso owners would.

I agree. Unfortunately, most people consider their dog trained if it will sit after being asked to 15 times / getting bribed with food.... So much goes into properly training and socializing a dog that people completely fail to research or do. The craziest part is most people at my building BOUGHT their dog so they've been able to train since the puppy stage and they STILL epically failed! I rescued mine at 11 months and there was never ever an option for her to act inappropriately towards other people or dogs. We worked hard and long to make her a confident and comfortable dog... Its a real shame other people think this is optional.

Think of it in the way thet you are protecting your girl, you dont want her with uneducated owners dogs, they will never understand its there dogs thats not been trained tyats at fault.
I live in the uk, where i live you dont see many latge breed dogs, especially mastiffs, lots of ankle snappers, that im told many times my dogs would eat, i love to reply, oh no i wouldnt let my dog eat it, they only have the best food....
