Hello, I have some interesting puppies

Hi, I am new to this forum and know very little about presa's. The reason I am here is because we had puppies almost 2 years ago and they came out looking vastly different from their parents plus the boy dog's temperament has recently become very aggressive to his dad.

The mom is a german shepherd/pit bull mi. The dad looks like a full reverse brindle pit. He is about 70 pounds.

The puppy girl looks exactly like one of the presa's posted in the album and so does my boy.

The girl is the smallest of our dogs and weighs 65 pounds. The boy is 85 pounds. We have had everyone spayed and neutered last fall. We keep the puppy girl in the kitchen because she likes to soil the living room (which has hardwood). Everyone else is good and can hang out in the rest of the house. This past month, dad and the boy have gotten into two fights. So now we keep son in our bedroom and away from dad.

We feel terrible that they no longer get along but from what I'm reading, it is normal for bigger dogs to challenge same sex dogs even if they grow up together. Any insight is appreciated. Like I said, we don't know anything about the breed and never intended to get them but it looks like they are in our puppies' genes somewhere. Any advice and recommendations are appreciated.

Genes are crazy things... could just be the way they mixed up, or could be some sorts of mastiffs in there, somewhere. Who knows?

How old are the pups, now? 2 years old? They look younger than that in the pictures. 2 years old seems a bit old to still be having accidents... unless there's a medical condition going on?

Sorry they aren't all getting along. Hopefully you'll find some helpful tips and tricks here on the forum.

Welcome aboard to you and your pack~ I agree, the female should not be going potty in the house. Has she been checked for a possible UTI or other medical issue causing her to potty in the house?

I'm sorry to hear about the 2 boys. How long have the two been fighting? Have they had vet checks to rule out any type of illness or injury?

Hope these links help:

Aggression in Dogs | ASPCA

This may sum it up (found in leerburg article in the Q & A):

The problems you have seen are problems that result with people who own dog packs.

They also result when these dog packs are not properly housed – in other words are allowed to run together and then are not trained. The fact is these problems are a result of mistakes that you made and not mistake the dogs made. The dog is just acting like a dog.

Had you used dog kennels or dog crates and controlled the environment these dogs were allowed to live in – this dog would not have to be killed.

So when you say that my web site promotes people who have dogs like this being put to sleep you are 100% wrong. My web site promotes that people learn pack behavior, that people learn how to properly live with multiple dogs,(using dog crates) and that people properly train their dogs and control them when out of their crate.

Welcome to the gang!

Thank you ! The pups turn 2 in June of this year. The girl pup is not having "accidents" on the hardwood - it's more like "on purposes" ! She has no problem on the linoleum. The parents stay in the room with the hardwood floor so when she gets in there, she will wee and poo. I had her blocked from getting in there with various furniture but she always outwitted me until recently. I am in the process of building her a nice pen.

Thanks ! The dad and son had their first fight I think in December 2013. They had a second one due to lax security. I agree we made mistakes with letting them all be together. My husband is even more clueless. He thinks they should just all love each other since they are family. I will be re-arranging the house and creating a nice pen. Right now we keep the son separate and are vigilant.

Oh and yes, they have been checked by the vet. There were lots of gashes and such on both boys. It looked worse than it turned out. I thought Mario's ear was going to be deformed but it healed nicely and looks normal.
