Last night a little after 11 PM both dogs started to go ballistic. I was downstairs taking a shower and could hear them clearly over the running water. It was obvious that something was wrong as Kryten was producing a very deep, extremely loud bark that was shaking the windows. By the time I got out of the shower and upstairs, 5-10 minutes, both dogs were laying down sleeping as if nothing was ever wrong. Since they were calm, it was dark and cold, and I was tired I just chalked it up to some wild animal had gotten into the yard and taken it's time in leaving. It has happened before but while Jiggers barking was accurate for an animal, Kryten's was much more forceful.
This morning revealed just what they were barking at. My car's door had the window broken and the easy to reach stuff had been tossed around.
The reason for the title is that my car is the only one that had damage and normally there are a string of cars in each location. My car would be the first one that the person would have reached from the east end of the road. By breaking the glass of my car they set off a very loud alarm and likely took off running since none of the compartments in my car were even opened. He tried to do his job unfortunately it was too late for my stuff this time.

Yes way to go Kryten! Great job! Sorry about your car. And yes he probably did stop the sleezeball from doing others damage as well....Sometimes this guys don't stop at cars....sometimes if they get no resistance they go for the house after the car....sleezeball!

Needless to say this broken window and all associated events have been on my mind a lot since I am still dealing with the clean up, I pick up my car later this afternoon from getting a new window installed. Thinking about Kryten's behavior made me realize I have heard that bark before. 4-5 years ago most of the cars/garages on my street were broken into, mine was the only one that had no damage. That time he likely was able to protect my stuff since the damage done to others had alerted him that something was wrong and he was already on guard when they reached us.
He truly is the epitome of a gentle giant and I wouldn't change his personality for anything. The only thing I might want to change is his elbows but that likely had an impact on who he is so that's a tough one.
