Happy to help anyone needing information about Tibetan Mastiffs

Hi, my name is Kristina Sherling (Kristi) and we own SIERRAS' TIBETAN MASTIFFS. We started our research in 1978 the old fashioned way, visiting dusty old bookstores, typewriting letters, phone calls etc., and acquired our first TM in 1980, Wakefield Kaung Kin Peya Ye-Bo who was the first TM to ever earn his TT (temperament test) certificate, he is TT-TM-1.

You will literally find Sierras' dogs behind the programs of drakyi, Sundari, Chenporewa, Shang Hai, Seng Khri, Ayyangadoo, Timberline and many more. Some are in Europe, many are in America.

We have judged all over the world, Russia, Estonia, Taiwan, USA, and most recently China. If anyone has general questions about the Chinese dogs, please feel free to ask.

We know a good majority of the pedigrees and of course, the ancestors in the pedigrees, health and very often, knew the long ago ancestors as well.

We health test all of our dogs, breeding and companion stock so we get a much better idea of what our breeding program is producing and if we need to *tweak* it. We have finished many AKC champions (and have spayed/neutered those same champions) and look forward to the upcoming years.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of Chinese crossbred dogs (marketed as TMs) which are called *market type* and because of their huge hair, lots of wrinkles and size, are infiltrating the TM gene pool which is not good considering this brings in Neopolitan, DDB, Chow Chow, Newfoundland, Mastin Espanol, possibly Korean Dosa. The dogs from China no longer have shorter ears befitting a breed from a high, bitterly cold, country and we see dogs with huge thin ear leathers more befitting crosses with lowland breeds.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions here or email me at seabreezeranch@aol.com

Now I look forward to this great board!!

I am on FB, and I'm friends with Mooshi's Mummy/Tammy (same profile picture, I prefer not to post my last name all over, though by this time probly half the board has it anyways I suppose).

THIS is the only really stacked photo of Apollo I've got. For more pictures, HERE, and HERE.

Hah, TM pups get that reaction from most everyone, and then they're horrified when you tell them he's only 10-12 weeks old and is going to get "how much bigger??????"

Thanks Ruth for the growing stages of Apollo!! congrats on your BOB win =)
Hard to believe he is already 2!! I remember Sheila talking about sending daddy's *stuff* to Susie.

Here is one of our homebred boys, now owned by a couple in Seattle, just took BOB at Westminster. Out of 13 pups (3 were placed as companions because owners didn't want to show), 9 are finished. They are all pretty much the same quality as this boy.

He was unfortunetly the only TM there that weekend. BUt we're hitting a show end of March and I think I've got competition for him then, course, the bitch in question has hit several shows already where Apollo and I are still figuring out this whole "stand up straight and look pretty for the judge" thing! But we'll figure it out.

I can't believe he's two either, it doesn't feel like its been THAT long since we brought him home!

Saw the show! Handsome boy all around, though I have to admit to being picky and prefering a less "fluffed" ruff-grooming style, but then I prefer plain and simple when it comes to grooming.

Apollo's mostly our companion and property guardian, but I promised Susie I'd consider showing him casually, so we are!

Yes, way too much coat for me but his sire had a huge coat. Judges and audiences like it, sadly.

I much prefer the more authentic lay down, glossy coat. I have a sister to that male, she is red gold with as heavy a coat but her brother (also here) has a much shorter, more authentic coat but its extremely DENSE!Cassie3:4frtKJID.jpgCassieShnyme.jpgPunkyfcfwdID.jpgPunkyJan262012 ID.jpgPunkyShnyCls.jpg

So glad its not me grooming him then!

Apollo's coat is smoother, but plenty dense as far as I'm concerned. And as far as my vet is concerned, we had his hips/elbows xrayed two weeks ago for OFA, and they had trouble getting through the fluff to find a vein lol.

Oh Punky, Bodhi, Polar (will attach the last two dogs pics) are super easy to groom, thank goodness!! Most of mine are except for a couple but I sure go through rakes and pin brushes!!

We do our OFAs without anesthesia but do use a sedative when we are doing Penn Hip.BodhiDec12.jpgPolarPD ID.jpgJrHndlrBISMugz.jpgRedStarNov12.jpgGordyDec2012.jpg
