Happy 4th birthday to my beautiful and sassy red dog, Thalia.

I can't believe it's been 4 years already. This coming year is going to be a big one for us because I'm really going to try setting aside this anxiety I have around being judged, failure/rejection. We should be working on our Advanced Ralky title, but we're not. She could have qualified for the dock diving nationals based on our practice jumps, but I didn't try. She could have barn hunt titles, but I haven't competed etc... I want this to be the year that we hard and start getting her the titles that she deserves. We love all the sports that we do and love doing them for fun, but she deserves to be recognized for the canine athlete that she truly is. This is also the year that we start lure coursing and disc dog.

Happy birthday beautiful girl! I am so impressed with how much Thalia does and your hard work as well! Don't discount that :). She is such a pretty girl and what a sweet puppy! I love the picture of her lip up! So cute!

Hmm post fail? Let's try again...

I love the Grr picture! It's so adorable! Happy 4th Thalia!! :bdaysong: :champagnepop: :winnertrophysign:

I have suffered the same anxieties all my life QY10. They aren't healthy and they have no reason to exist other than in your own mind. Have you heard of Brene Brown? Bren* Brown is an American scholar, author, and public speaker, who is currently a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She wrote a book called "The Gifts of Imperfection". On the cover it says, "Let Go of Who You Think Who You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are." She also has some other truly inspiring and empowering books. One my favorites is "The Power of Vulnerability". Search her name on youtube because she has some amazing stuff out there. Happy Birthday, you spunky little girl!

I agree with the above-- and also have listened to Brene Brown- she's authentic, and really is someone to learn from; love her.

Keep on doing what you- and Thalia- love...don't worry about the rest...(and "should" is a dirty word, IMO.)

I looked up her books and they look really interesting.

I see so many people competing with their dogs and saying how much fun it is and laughing when they don't do well. To me, that's terrifying. To be judged like that and not do well? To even attempt at doing our sports in front of strangers...

Here is the TED talk that blew up with views- she's very likable. :)

I guess one way to think about it, is that you love Thalia. She loves doing these activities. If you view it in a wide, panoramic way....at the end of the day- at the end of her life- who the hell cares how you "ranked" competitively against a bunch of other dogs? She could care less...she was with you, and having fun (and getting ripped, lol).

Does that make sense?

I don't actually take Ativan hahaha I do suffer with my mental wellness though and my particular mental illness is comorbid with anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, the use of medication WHILE working on self-improvement is almost unavoidable. I don't particularly like medication, but it's necessary sometimes.

Think so? Maybe it just doesn't work for me because I don't believe it will. I've been through so many pills it's redic. The most progress I've made has come from within with the help of therapy and self improvement material like Brene. I suffer from anxiety, bipolar depression, and ptsd. Even with meds at times I felt crushed by it. The most headway I've been able to make is a super concentrated effort on PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and to change the way I think of people. Sorry sort of got off subject :threadjacked:

You're bipolar and you don't take medication? How do you find naturally going through those cycles without anything to level you out?I've got BPD, anxiety and depression. I had been managing without any support or help, but I seem to be sliding backwards recently and I'm not sure why. BPD has a lot of different symptoms and most of them are getting out of hand recently.Super grateful for my dogs though. Thalia is so loving and gets me out in the yard, exercising and having some fun. Angus is very intuitive and just gets it. The moment my mood changes, he knows and he's there. Usually, when I'm upset or something, he sits/lays on me. Last night I was laying on my back on the couch and Angus was curled up on my stomach/chest.
