Half english half brazilian

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum! I recently lost my best friend and half English half Brazilian Mastiff to cancer. I recently had to put him down and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. The pain is so deep and I miss him so very much.

My wife and I I have recently been discussing possibly getting another puppy. Something to fill the huge void and loss and our family and also make our family whole again. Something to fill our hearts with love and joy like our dog did. I have some good thinking about it but I know he would want us to carry on his legacy and have happiness again.

I was hoping to find another gladiator Mastiff like we had. Another half English half Brazilian. If anyone can point me in the right direction to a breeder that breeds this style of Mastiffs I would really appreciate it. I'm having a hard time finding anything on Google search. I live in Washington State but I'm willing to travel. Thank you so much!

So sorry for your loss!
We did the same thing when we lost our dog... came home from the vet to an empty house and looked at each other... we both said "we need a dog". A house just isn't a home without a dog to greet you at the door. :(

We also knew the dog that had passed had filled our hearts with so much love, that it NEEDED to be shared. Love is one of those great things that the more you give, the more you get in return.

And... with these guardian breeds, you KNOW he would be very worried about you if you DIDN'T have canine supervision! (at least, that's how we felt when we said goodbye to our big guy). :)

As for another half-n-half dog... I'd be worried that trying to get a dog just like your last one would put too much pressure on the puppy to perform.... and with mixed breedings there are soooo many things that can skew the temperament.

That said... here in WA there is a guy that does some mixed dogs: Olympic Dogs : olympicdogs.net
I know NOTHING about him... just what I've read on his website.

I don't see any Filas on his website... probably due to their special ojeriza traits, which might make mixes a bit unstable.

Thank you Jessica, like I said its the worst pain I have ever felt. I recently lost my grandpa a year and a half ago and he was like a father to me. I thought that was pain until this happened. I almost feel weird saying it but this hurts so much worse. He was our whole entire world and my best friend. I miss him so very very much. I really appreciate the kind words

Thank you for all of the information and the kind words. That has been one of my consistent worries with trying to get another half and half is that I'm afraid that I won't know exactly what I'm getting for one, and that maybe it just won't be the exact same thing as what I had. We have really considered just getting an English instead because at least we know exactly what we are getting. I just really loved the way my dog looked, his temperament, his constant need to please us and his constant need to cuddle. He had a very tight build but was very tall. He wasn't bulky and he was very athletic.

Also thank you for talking about how our protective baby wouldn't want us alone. I really have never thought about it like that and that actually makes me feel better. I do have guilt thinking about getting another dog and guilt over his loss as it's probably a natural part of the mourning process but that helps thank you :)

I assume it would be tough to find and am of no help. I don't know how reputable of a breeder you would be able to find that produces essentially a mutt. I would worry about the temperament and what type of dog you would end up with. It will always be hard to bring another dog in feeling like you're trying to get exactly what you had. Sorry for your loss :(

Do not get a dog from olympicdogs. I have heard they mix and mix their dogs and get lots of unstable dogs selling dogs to unsuitable homes. Do not get a breeder that mixes fila with EM. There are a lot of bybs out there breeding bad filas, ones that are fearful, nervous or have health problems. I guess the same can be said about EMs or any breed if you don't do the right research. Either stick with a pure breed from a reputable breeder or go adopt a mixed breed.

It's not that I want a mut or a mix breed per se, it's just my Mastiff was the best dog in the world and I have had dogs my whole life. His mom was a Fila and his dad was an English. I'm not absolutely stuck on getting one as I wouldn't mind having an English either, I just really love everything about my dog. Maybe I'm reaching because I love him so much. My wife and I have already been discussing that maybe we should stick with just getting an English. I definitely don't want anything else so I wouldn't get anything from that Olympic place anyway. I only want either exactly what I just had or an English Mastiff

I'm so sorry for your loss. I wouldn't go for another mix. They can be very unstable dogs, read dangerous. You got lucky. Be thankful that you got such a special dog. I lost my heart dog, a Fila, a year ago. I wanted another one, just like him but we are getting older and to handle one was something I didn't think we could do any longer. We ended up with an EM, he is 16 weeks old. He is nothing like my old boy but I can at times see some similarities. I am so glad he is different. It allows me to still have that huge part of my heart reserved for my old boy. The new pup has just expanded my heart. Honestly, I don't feel as bad that I have fallen madly in love with this little pup because he is not Cane. :)

Good luck in your search. Please think twice about the Fila mix. I have heard horror stories.

The best mixed breed dogs are truly "one of a kind" - because there will never be another just like them! Our current dog, Yogi, is one of those. I really feel for you, because I know when Yogi leaves us, he will leave a tremendous hole in our lives. One that I know cannot be filled by trying to find another Am Staff/Mastiff/Gun Dog mix. We got lucky, and so did you! At some point you will be able to remember all the good things about your dog, and the over whelming need to have him back will dissipate. If you are ready for another dog, and want a mixed breed, I would look at reputable rescues that appropriately foster and temperament test their dogs to find you a great match. If you want a puppy, I would pick a breed and find a reputable breeder so you get a healthy dog with a stable temperament.

Good luck!

I'm very sorry for your loss. When my last dog died i was like, that's it, i'm done, i can't do this again. He was a rottie mix and the sweetest and most gorgeous pup in the world. Although he was not my first dog, he was for sure the one i loved the most. It actually took me two years to get another one. I still love and miss him but it has gotten alot easier to remeber the wonderful 10 years we had together. Give yourself time to grieve and wait untill you're sure you can love the pup for himself and not as a replacement for what you've lost. But if you really feel that you are ready just go for it.

Thank you everyone for the advice. It seems like that has been the narrative since I started this thread and since I've talked to other people's outside of this forum. It just blows my mind that there are so baton temperament when my dog was the best most sweetest dog you could ever ask for. But I was just blessed with a beautiful earth angel I guess and nothing will ever be like him. Maybe it is time for a new start and a different breed like an English Mastiff.

I agree with what you said above. For a week after my dog died I told myself I can't do this ever again because the pain was so deep in my heart with straight ripped out of my chest. But I also sit in my home in this silence and my family just isn't the same. I know I am an animal person and a dog person and I've always had a dog since I was born.

...I also think the dog is a reflection of the owner. So, having such a sweet, loving dog says a lot of good things to me about YOU. :)

When I lost my EM girl suddenly I was heartbroken. I knew I needed another big baby but couldn't try to "replace" her with another EM so we got a bull mastiff. Even though they looked nothing alike I found I was STILL comparing the two. It just doesn't work. We have grown to love the bully girl in her own right but just be aware, there will never be another like the one you lost. It just doesn't happen. Get a new big baby to love and bring joy back into your home. And frustration, puppy puddles and piraña teeth. LOL

Thank you for the advice. I definitely don't want to play the compare game but I'm sure it's a bit natural. I will most likely just go with an English Mastiff. I appreciate it! And not looking forward to the puppy puddles lol

I know this is an old thread and you may not see this (was randomly googling the mix and this thread came up). But if it is gladiator mastiff in Spokane they are still breeding the same mix. They are the parents of a former girlfriend, and I picked up one gorgeous female in August 2017. They have a website now, just google gladiator mastiff and they should show up.
