Germans must walk dogs twice a day under new law

If they would only make it mandatory for the kids to put their cell phones down and go for a walk twice a day!

Thanks for posting this. I have talked to a few people, since most family members and friends live in Germany. Most believe that the idea in general is great and makes sense. However, enforcement is going to be a nightmare. There are no resources to legitimately control that. Authorities would probably have to rely on other people reporting their observations, which is pretty much what is happening right now (not under a particular law). I personally don‘t think this is going to go through. Especially not during a pandemic where resources are focused elsewhere. Even if it did, people too lazy to walk their dogs today would probably find ways to "cheat" the system somehow, while responsible owners are following the right practices regardless.

Sounds like the new gestapo to me. I'm not against walking your dog, just against unnecessary laws, particularly for victimless crimes. I hope this kind of heavy handed despotic form of government never comes to the US, but I see some of it already. Mandatory this, mandatory that. Don't we have enough laws already? America's founding fathers fought against this type soft tyranny.

I wouldn‘t disagree. I‘m all for proper dog exercise, but that law is unrealistic. They would have to force people to buy Fitbits for their dogs to send daily activity levels to the authorities. I know I‘m exaggerating here, but how else would you track that for ~10 million dogs? If it was (hypothetically) enforceable, this would be the time to start a dog walking company.

if you can't get your dog in the yard "twice a day for a total of one hour" , you shouldn't have it .... honestly , imo , if your dog only gets out for 1 hour everyday , i feel sorry for it ........
