Does anyone here grow rosemary? I like to grow little plants indoors and because rosemary is hardy, I thought I could grow some in a little pot in the kitchen. However, I've been trying to get my seeds to sprout for almost six months and nothing. :( I didn't realize it was so hard to grow.

Hm, never done rosemary, but my mint is thriving if that helps lol

Its always possible you got a bad batch of seeds, it DOES happen. But.....

make sure you're not over-watering the seeds, doing a quick scan online and it looks like its a plant that doesn't like "wet feet"

I AM seeing several comments to the effect that rosemary may be hard to start from seed, you might have better luck convincing someone with a plant to give you a cutting to root. Or just buying a plant to maintain.

Like Ruth said it's easier and safer to root a cut tan to grow seeds, you have to put plenty water on it, but be carefull not put too much. You can have it in a kitchen window as long as it get good ligth and air.

I have a very large Rosemary plant in my garden. I didn't grow it from seed. My mom gave it to me, transplanted from her garden. It's done nothing but grow since being at my place though.

Angus decided it would be fun to bring my potted thyme plant in the house. He emptied the pot on the couch and was tossing the poor thyme plant around. It's been weeks and I'm still finding dirt here and there.

Is Angus a brat like Penelope? lol

I bought a rosemary plant once and killed it within two weeks. Not sure what I did wrong, but I can kill a plant no matter what I do to it. Guess I'll have to try again. Thanks for the advice. :)

Would Miss P destroy a potted plant on your furniture? If so, they may be similar in brattiness. :p

I don't do well with indoor plants. They're pretty much guaranteed to die. But for various reasons they usually do well when they're outdoor plants, hence the garden!

We've been getting ready for winter and I haven't had time to work in the garden much. I have mini bell peppers coming in loads and my birdhouse gourds are big and beginning to harden off. 20141007_175957.jpg20141020_172755.jpg20141020_172815.jpg

They are gourds. They grow about the size of a medium pumpkin. You put them up in a dry area for about three months, they harden, then you scrub the mold, dirt and outter layer off. They are used to make things like containers, bird houses, etc. Ill paint them, drill openings and remove the seeds and will polyurethane them and make houses for purple martins. If they make it through the frost this week and I get to put them up, Ill post photos of the houses once they are finished.

We had our first frost last night with temps at 29 degrees. I covered them but I'm not sure they made it....will see this afternoon. I hope so, they are really close to being fully mature!
