you tease! I though this was your dog food info :razzberry:
haha I'm sorry I didn't even think of that! I'm working on it, it's just a slow process to begin with and I'm trying to include everything that everyone wanted to see! At the absolute latest and this of course is worst case scenario it'll be done by the end of April, depending on my work schedule and all that jazz. I'm really aiming to have it done sooner than that of course!

While I agree with most of what is listed I don't necessarily believe its 100% in finding a reputable breeder.

Parents on Premises- I know some breeders that do have both parents but also travel to find the best dog or bitch. Even met one who traveled another country to find a good stud that's some serious dedication in my book, lol.

Showing- Only way to prove breeding stock, don't get me started....

Like I said there are some good breeders who have both parents but like you said they will also travel. They aren't trying to do litter after litter with the same parents, which is where the distinction lays.

Gotcha...

There's one that breeds danes in my area who just imported another female, when she can't use the dog anymore she sells them. She was trying to sell a 6 year old blue female on CL for weeks.

Ha, as a breeder they forgot to mention, If you change you mind about choosen homes, you can keep all the puppies.... I did that, silly me, lot of work, but I will tell you I did not take in to account that they will all get old and pass about the same time. Miss my pack of goobers.

See, I disagree here depending on the breed. I would rather take from a working German Shepherd line than a showing shepherd (absolutely hate the hips on the show dogs). Same goes with Labs. We have a working line, Petey is a working line and his lines are far superior than many show lines. He is also truer to the breed standard than most show dogs. If a breed is meant to work, I would rather purchase a puppy from a working breeder than a show breeder. I guess for me, the breeder has to be doing something more with their dogs than just sitting them in a kennel and I have known many show breeders who do exactly that. The dog wins his CH, 10 points in Canada so you can do it in two weekends, and then they sit them in a kennel for the rest of their breeding career. I'm not saying that all show breeders are but there is enough out there who do, which gives them a pretty bad name.

I agree Northern, but my issue is with breeders that dub it the ONLY way to prove a quality dog. What about things like TT or OB? If you are striving to improve the breed why not test the total package. A CGC is nice but it doesn't really test the temp, stamina, or endurance of the dog in IMO. Sometimes I don't even see a CGC on some of the show stock. A dog that just has a CH means what besides appearance wise? Especially when its subjective depending on the judge Neos, Bulldogs, Bassets are a testament to this.

For toy breeds and other "non working" groups I can see but again they should still even a simple OB and TT says a lot to me. Perhaps if shows had like parts to them like they do with schutzhund with the GSD.

All in all like you mentioned it depends on what the owner is looking for, and what breeders want in a dog. When I was a beginner I was naive and would go with the flow, but as the years went by I started asking too many questions......if you know what I mean.
