Fish

Do many of you give fish to your dogs? I know some give canned fish in water, but if you have fresh fish can you give it to them with the bones or do you have to de-bone it for them?

Yes, if possible I try to include raw fish in Lolas diet. She gets sprats, herring, mackerel and the like. And yes, I feed them whole. At the start I had to mix some minced tripe in with it. But now she readily eats them on their own.

Yes definitely-- Mateo loves fish, all kinds. Mostly what I feed is whole sardines, herring, smelts, mackerel and occasionally salmon. The bones are usually small and digestible, but some fish bones can be more dense, so I would check beforehand.

We feed fish but Sonny is the only one who eats it whole. It's usually given as a frozen fishicle. Lol Ava will eat it ground and Chica won't touch either(big surprise, I know;)) lol

Denna gets 5-6oz of fish every day. We get a 50lb case of fresh-frozen sardines or mackerel from our buyer's group. She'll eat them straight from the freezer, or thawed... the first time she ate them I had to cut them into bite sized pieces (for about a week), but now she chomps right through them. These are WHOLE fish, not gutted or cleaned. On the few occasions we run out, I'll get whole fish at the Asian markets - but those have been gutted for human customers.

I have heard if you feed lots of fish, you need to balance with some vitamin E.... Denna loves almonds, so she sometimes gets those for extra E... I also randomly toss in an E capsule, just for fun.
