i have noticed our female bullmastiff to have a dark freckle on the middle of her tongue. is this common with this breed?

I'm not sure if that is common. I had a GS/Chow mix who had black spots on his tongue but that is norm due to the Chow. I've seen other dogs at the animal shelter who did not have chow that had the black mark. I'm not sure if it's anything to worry about. But to ease your mind, you may want to call the vet and ask to email them the pic.

I just checked both Ruby & Bella's tongues & neither of them have a dark spot. Sunny & Ally are not home & won't be for another week, but I'll check them when they get home.

My boy Brahma has a dark freckle on his tongue too. He developed it around two years of age. It just appeared out of nowhere. Looks exactly like the one you posted, except his is more forward on his tongue. I have a higher resolution version of this picture, but you can see it here.

yes that is normal its just a pigment spot on the tongue. a lot of dogs have it and breeds like the chowchow have a completly blue tongue. nothing to worry about.
