Feeding guide, recommend food brand and crate training issues

I had dogs for years and this is my second CC but just looking for input on types of food and how much foodfor my 12 week on male? Currently using Science Diet large breed no problems I've used this brand in the past and feeding him 3 times a day 1 cup per feeding, His weight is 28.5 lbs. His father and mother were largest I have every seen

He got his third series of shot plus rabies yesterday sleep like a baby last night with no peeing in his crate
But I have had problems with him relieving himself daily, it's probably a puppy thing but what surprising is that I have caught him drinking his urine on several occasions. Puzzled on this matter and his crate divider only gives him enough room to turn around and lie down.

Again just a little caught of guard with drinking his own urine and wondering about available food choices;
Also I am stationed in Seoul Korea with limited selection on base and off base food. Thanks for your input in this matter!

Welcome. I assume puppy has access to fresh water at all times and there is no reason for him to drink his urine due to thirst?

Welcome, i would definately check the rating of science diet on dogfoodadvisor.com or dogfoodanaylsis and reconsider your food options. If you can get some options that are available to you locally then Im sure more educated members can let you know what might work best for your boy.

Yea please reconsider the science diet. These giant breed pups really need certain things and science diet is not going to give them the proper nutrition.

I am somewhat limited on selections of food and have been looking for a recommend list to assist with my research here in Korea. If you are someone could provide a list of recommended brand it would be greatly appreciated! Also willing to pay shipping to APO if companies rate are reasonable.

AAFES online carries Earthborn Holistics which is what we use. The Coastal Catch, Meadow Feast and Great Plains Feast are all appropriate.

No problem! I just know we've considered getting it from there if need be since we're in the middle of nowhere Montana and getting anything sent out here is a pain so I can only imagine having something shipped to Korea haha.

Just curious If this is suffecient for a primary/only source of water? I would try leaving a bowl of fresh water available as well. I know when my EM was a pup he didnt seem to get enough water from the kennel waterers and I suspect the science diet isnt helping matters much.

Do you put any water on the food for dinner time? I've heard that can help, too - someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
... a quick search - do NOT add water if citric acid is in the FIRST five or so ingredients. Otherwise, might be a good idea?
