Grazefull1, I'm picky with my dogs. Most dogs I saw advertised were of BYB to me. I'm not real picky with conformation however dogs that display obvious faults don't appeal to me. For example common faults I see in the Euro line are roachy backs, poor rear ( straight or cowhocked), and poor eye ( haws showing). I'll admit I got lucky with Stone and his line. Despite being part of a "heavy" line his eyes are "tight" like most you see. He has no roach back, ( although right now he looks like the "humpback of notre dame" due to his growth stages), and decent rear. As with Thor the only thing I would ping him on would be his eyes again because its an obvious fault. Luckily it doesn't interfere with his sight but its still not something you'd want on a "pick puppy."

I've been to those sites ( which are quite often refered) and neither of the dogs appeal to me, personally. At one point one of the breeders and I were trying to import dogs from the same kennel.

Blackshadow, I feel the same when I first the "Euro" dane. I never even knew those types existed until I went browsing for another companion for Duke. I was simply in awestruck since then I've never looked back. Don't get me wrong there are some danes here that are "nice" but I will always prefer a Euro dane. Apparently the trend is starting to catch on in the ring as judges are picking dogs with small percentages of "Euro blood." I've seen danes like the one grazefull1 posted above but they were not of good stock IMO. Blackshadow which type of HQ are you looking for? Russian, German, French lines?

To be honest I have no idea... just typed in the breed and started looking at the sites that came up no matter where they came from. This kennel had the male that first appealed to me but from the pictures it might be a little cowhocked, it is so hard to tell from the pics but their substance and heads appeal to me much more than the light Danes i am seeing over here :( They appear to be french in this case.

He is beautiful Mary. Love his head. His hind legs look a little off to me but it could just be the photos.

He is gorgeous! I don't like the haw but its not that viable compared to some. I agree he is slightly cow hocked but not bad compared to what I've seen. Odd enough his pedigree is from my favorite French Kennel. I want to visit the facility one day, if she's still around when the time comes. Pretty much the French, Russian, German lines are the same but with slight differences. I notice the German lines don't have as much "wrinkle" compared to the French and Russian.

Mary the link posted above is a sister of my favorite french kennel. :)

Ahhh see we have a lot in common when it comes to looking for some nice dogs in your breed :) I just like what they are doing and they are beautiful, I would love to meet them in person and probably would have to go over to get one as I would want to have hands on for that picking since I am not crazy about what is here in NA

Same here NA Great Danes don't appeal to me either. :/ I get questioned quite frequently about my boys being mixes, usually mastiffs, because most danes they see here in NA are more refined.
