English mastiff breeders- any advice?

Hi all,I made an account here because I'm trying to find a reputable breeder. The story: My English mastiff of nine years passed away last year, he was my heart and now not having a mastiff is just not a life I can adapt to, so began my search for good reputable breeders that treat their dogs like family, do Heath testing, breed for the betterment of the breed, etc.I found a few breeders that met my requirements so I reached out to them. I heard back from maybe 4, and then I never heard back from them either, except sporadically. I am desperately wanting to find a mastiff, I'm willing to give a deposit, I'm willing to answer any and all questions, I'm willing to give vet references. So what's the deal? Why can I not find a breeder with reasonable communication skills? I don't think that's too much to as for! If anyone can make any recommendations I'd greatly appreciate it, because I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance!Tracy

Breeders are very busy. Especially breeders who show. I don't meet many reputable breeders who health test and check every other box but don't show, so I'm assuming a lot of the breeders you're contacting are ramping up for the show season and probably don't have time to respond.

The best advice I can give to you is to actually GO to a show. Check out the program beforehand. See when the Mastiffs go into the ring. Arrive at the ring 45 minutes before the class starts. And talk to breeders/handlers. You may run into a few who are too busy to chat, but for the most part breeders and handlers at dog shows are very friendly.

You can also contact your local Mastiff club and explain that you're looking for a well bred puppy and are having trouble finding someone to talk to.

Also, can you give me an example of an opening e-mail you are sending to a breeder to introduce yourself and ask about puppy availability?

I also like Angel Velez. Look him up on facebook. He has an EM as his avatar. I have a pup from him and I think he is wonderful. The sire of my boy is from Glacier. Angel could be harder to get a hold of. If you talk to either one please tell them that the owner of Justice recommended them. They were both so helpful when I was looking I would like for them to know that I recommend them. Good luck on your search.

Thank you both for the responses. Angel, it's funny you mentioned Glacier mastiffs, as that was my number one breeder choice. Some one else recommended her to me as well. I contacted her a number of times, but only received one email from her. I'm in love with her mastiffs, they are beautiful.

If you want to PM me your number I can PM her on facebook and give her your number. Another member just got a puppy from her.I believe the pups name is Roxy. Do a search here and you should be able to find the thread. I'm shocked Cece didn't get back to you. I have spoke to her around 4 times and got through on the first call. Angel still has a couple of the littermates of my boy but they are about 6 months old. He is very inexpensive for the quality of mastiff that you get. If you would like you can friend me on facebook and you can see my boy and see some of Angel's dogs. We also used a service that flew our boy to us IN THE CABIN of the plane. I highly recommend. It was around 400.00 not much higher than shipping cargo. Just let me know if I can be of any help.
