EM Breeder Discussion

I think this thread is an awesome idea & would like to see a thread similar for CCs & maybe other mastiff breeds as well. I'm not volunteering though! Lol :) I'm not qualified to make educated decisions as to which breeders should be on the list

We'll have to see if the other breeds want to actually do the work. You know us EM owners have the most initiative :p

Not going to mention names but some of these breeders need to read the mastiff standard and reconsider their breeding stock...just sayin.

Well, feel free to PM if you want. I'd like to take all information into consideration before I publish a list.

While a master list seems like a good idea, here's the issue with a list like this. From yoru very first post I see two breeders for sure I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. They may tote health testing etc, but there are things in their lines that they are in denial about and refuse to help their puppy buyers (and even blame them) when a genetic issue comes up. Also - winning in the show ring and at big shows alot times is all about the money behind them. Just some things to keep in mind. I would never reccommend a breeder I didn't knw personally or had learn about from someone I trust. I have only been in Mastiffs for 2 years, but I have made alot of contacts. So much that goes on behind the scene's that unknowing puppy buyers are ignorant of. It's sad really. Sorry to sound so negative!

When I do get a good list together, there'll definitely be a big disclaimer at the beginning stating whatever it needs to state to let people know that they need to do their own research and just because a breeder is listed in the thread doesn't mean they have a universal stamp of approval (are not necessarily endorsed) by these forums.

That being said, like I said in the original post of this thread, the purpose of this thread is to discover and discuss potential breeders for a list. I understand that you probably don't want to name names (as it could just lead to arguments or even slander accusations if the breeders visit this site), but how is anyone going to know negative things about breeders if we don't share our thoughts and opinions.

I'm assuming Rockport would be on your list to avoid, as I've read their health gaurantee and they basically say they won't cover any of the normal genetic issues because they could be caused by owner neglect.

Basically, I'm asking for peoples' feedback on the breeders I've linked above so that when I do a list, I can provide a brief write-up of each breeder including known pros and cons, if any.

Anyone can feel free to PM me any info they'd prefer not to post publicly.

I actually missed Rockport, LOL. I don't want to advertise other forums on here, but there are numerous threads about bad breeders pinned at the top of several of the other Mastiff forums. I would never put anything in writing myself though without personally knowing the breeders. I'll see if I can dig up any links and send them your way.

I just checked another forum that I signed up for a loooong time ago and rarely frequent, and they kind of have a list, although what they tried to do was create a list of breeders that their members had used so new people could PM the member to ask questions about the breeder.

Here was their disclaimer at the beginning of the list (18 breeders).

The following list is meant for the purpose of communication only! This is not a
statement of good or bad practices and (forum name) is not endorsing or denying the
quality of any of the breeders listed. We firmly believe it is the
responsibility of the "puppy buyer" or prospective future Mastiff owner to make
an informed decision concerning breeders. Please check for "facts" and not
"rumors" when screening breeders. This list can help people communicate with
others that have had first hand experience with a specific breeder.
Participation is voluntary.

If a breeder doesn't health test, would you still consider them a quality breeder and worthy of being endorsed here?

Personally I wouldn't purchase from a breeder with "well known" breeds but for "primitives" I'd take the chance. Only because those breeders would "test" in other venues.

Everyone has their suggestions of what a good breeder is but its ultimately up to the buyer whether or not they want to educate themselves further.

Still looking for more feedback. If you know of any good breeders, please add their link. If you have any first hand experience (positive or negative) with breeders already listed and feel comfortable sharing, please do.
