My boy is going on 12 weeks and he whines andcries for everything lol. Is this typical for the breed or should I tell my baby to man up soon? LOL

It's typical puppy behavior but it can follow into adulthood. Ignore him when he whines unless that's his cue to you that he needs to potty.

Some dogs whine to gain attention, i.e. want to play, want some loving, etc.

Learn what his whine might mean. If it's to gain attention or to play, it's best to provide those things on your terms not his. Tell him to sit and when you're ready, give him attention.

Make sense?

I do not believe whining is based on breed, it's based on learned behavior. He has learned that whining gets him what he wants, sorta like what a kid does to their parents. :)

My Boerboel Odi whines too. If we stop to talk to people when walking he will whine after about 5 minutes. Sometime in the house he will just whine for no reason at all. I tend to suspect he might be in pain from the rapid growth but it is just speculation.

My dog didn't whine when he was a puppy. He's such a crybaby now a days and there's no way to shut him up. He cries the worse when he is excited. The only way to curb or minimize his crying is to make my pre-walk/going out motions unpredictable. I can't say the words "ready to go?" (to my bf) or "okay, let's go" or "okay" lol....we have to resort to spelling those words out loud.

Forgot to mention, whining can be so many things. For my dog it's stomach ache, boredom, excitement, need to potty, hungry, want to play, pestering noises, relieving stress, can't get a toy, can't get an itch, separation anxiety, frustration on a leash.

Can you give an example of when he whines when you are training? Whining for being crated usually means he wants out but he could also be bored. Does he toys and chew toys in the crate with him?
