Dogo breeders

New to the forum and was wondering where other Dogo owners got their dogs and what their experiences were? Having trouble finding many reviews online. Looking for a 'pet quality' puppy (no breeding or showing), so physical perfection is not as important and great temperament and health. I'm a couple years away from getting my dogo but wanted to start my search early to get on a waiting list if necessary. I live in the Pacific Northwest but am open to breeders around the US. Just looking for a responsible breeder of healthy dogo's. Thanks!

I did 2+ years of research myself. I ended up going with Fogatti Dogos He is in Puerto Rico. Pre-buying the puppy before birth saved $1k. You just have to factor in travel costs etc. he breeds for show quality and sells the puppies he decides not to keep to show. I went this route because it was cheaper than the few I found in the states that appeared more true to breed standard. The runner up was a place in San Diego..... Quality of the dogs appeared the same, but $1,500 more or so. Good luck with whatever you decide

Here in Brasil you can now get one top quality for like $1,500 -$1,700 since the exchange rate is ridiculous now

Thank you very much everyone! Yes from what I've seen you can get a really nice quality dogo for cheaper from outside the states. Has anyone had any experience with La Cocha kennels in Argentina? It's a little intimidating shipping from so far away but I've read good things about working with them. Was curious what their contract is like when selling one of their pups, for example I know Las Pampas in Florida is out of the question for me because they sell their dogs as breeding stock.

My Dogo puppy was born 02/14

I am getting him from outside the U.S. from the conversations I have had with the breeder, it is 10 weeks or so until he is weened, then he will have his ears laser-cropped at 10 weeks, and because of the crop he can't fly for 2 more weeks. All-in-all, born 02/14 I should get him the first week of May.

Breeder takes care of paperwork, and I pick up the puppy at my local airport with my I.D. From a special area of the airport (where fed ex and UPS arrive etc)

1-way from puerto Rico to me is about $500

Hope this helps

Thank you very much for the info Beta Man and congratulations on your new puppy! I would love to see some pictures if you’re able to post an update when you bring him home.

when I get another Dogo I will look for someone that hunts them, and stays with the true breed standards as the Martinez family intended. And then pick the calmest one. Not one for show.In my experience I think the hunting breed is healthier.

I purchased my Cazador De La Cocha from De La Cocha Kennels about two and a half years ago. He has the best temperament I have ever seen. I purchased him at 4.5 months so he came very well socialized.

La coacha is the original line...I got that pup from a breeder that hunts down in Argentina with the Martinez family. Well after extensive training she was a cull. Would not catch, would not hunt, had mange overall bad experience. I know of a lady in Florida that swears by the name la coacha and she has some good looking dogs. She also has them doing bite work. Problems with this breed as many Corso owners will attest to is now thay are recognized by akc. So breeders are popping up every where. Everyone is so dam busy looking for show quality that there forgetting what the breed was ment for in the first place!!! I have seen some FABULOUS looking dogos that were crap...jmo. good luck. I know of a few good breeders im in Texas. 832-242-8155

I got my male from amy Collins. She is the president of the dogo club of America and owns Exodus de Argentinm. <sp. Ex is one of only 4 world champions. I will say that he is (chuy) verry quirky...calm as can be....so calm that I thought there was a problem. The first time he showed his teeth was at 9 months when he first seen a hog...after that I really started to enjoy him. My kids enjoy him. My neighbors. Pretty much everybody..wish I could say I was going to breed him but cant find a good match as of late

I got my female from Argentum and she has the best coat i have ever seen on a Dogo... more of a show dog than my Cazador De La Cocha. However, i live in Los Angeles area and not much room for hunting here.

Thanks everyone. fixitlouie agree 100% on your comment on US breeders now that the breed is becoming more popular here. I was having trouble finding breeders in the US that had true healthy dogos. Seems like there are a quite a few breeding beautiful show dogs that don't have the typical Dogo drive/temperament and/or come with a slew of health problems that shouldn't be there, as well as some breeders with dogo's 3-4 inches taller than average that look like they've been crossed with something else. Thanks for the input on your breeder I'm familiar with her kennel, so it's good to hear someone with a good experience there.

cazadordelacocha your dog is beautiful thank you very much for the picture, And congratulations on your upcoming litter I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Thanks again for all the input from everyone, now I several places to check out when I'm ready to pull the trigger on my next dog.
