"...How small a part of time they share that is so wondrous, sweet and fair." Edmund Waller.

I know the poem speaks of lovers, but is there a greater lover than a Mastiff owner for their Mastiff? We love, we love, we love, to death and beyond and their shadows will always be with us. And, in that far future, Daisy will be amongst the first to greet you when you cross over the rainbow bridge.

Love and healing to you and your family.

Thanks all. My husband was on an airplane going out of town when I took her to the vet. I have this huge hole. Part of me wants to avoid the forum because I cry every time I come here but I can't go without my mastiff fix. :(

When I lost Cane I thought I was done with the forum. It was hard to come on and read some of the post. The last couple of weeks it has gotten easier Hopefully, it will be the same for you. I'm sure you know that there is a core group here that will be here if you need anything. We are just a post or a pm away.

Big hugs to you, Dawn.

I don't think I said this before but the vet said it had to be some kind of puncture to get the infection in the chest cavity. Unless it was a very tiny piece of grass or something there were no visible punctures. I would have seen one. That leaves internal. Daisy loved to chew. Water bottles were her favorite but I always tried to take it away before she was getting pieces off. She also loved sticks. There is no telling what she ate during the course of the day. The only thing I can think is that something she was chewing/eating gave her a micro-perforation in her esophagus.

It is hard not to be paranoid every time I read a post about a dig chewing on bottles or not breathing well. These dogs are so stoic that it is difficult to know when they don't feel well.

Hug your dogs and give them a kiss on the lips from me. :|

After reading this post, I certainly hugged and kissed and snuggled my boys. Reading it again now has me in tears. The chewing thing is scary. Ruger is a stick chewer and as a rule he spits it out but surely some of it gets down, right?

When he was a tiny boy, he chewed water bottles but that didn't last long because he is a destructive chewer so I they didn't last even a second.

I just want to say I'm sorry for your loss again.

Thanks Kris. I'm in the anger stage now. I get PISSED off every time I read another memorial post for one of these babies. It just isn't fair, even when they live their "full" expected life span. Just never long enough. Emma helps. ;)

:( RIP Daisy, it will never be fair as they never live long enough to suit us. Each one takes a little piece of our heart with them.
