Crusty nose?

Dante (almost 6 months old bullmastiff) seems to always have crust on the top of his nose. It looks white-ish. Does anyone else's bullmastiff have this? I don't think it's discharge because then it'd be around the nostrils, right? It's nowhere near the nostrils, it's always above the nose.. What could it be?

I tried to wipe his nose with puppy wipes once in a while but it comes right back. (It was kinda hard to get it off, too)

Jake gets that every once in a while when his nose is dry, it's almost like a salt stain on his nose. I've never really worried too much about it because it usually goes away on its own.

Ella has a chronic dry nose. Ive tried things like coconut oil and olive oil but as you would expect, she just licked them off. I now use plain vaseline or mineral oil. I wouldn't even do that except that when it's very dry the middle area between her nostrils can crack. There's also something called nasodigital hyperkeratosis. Where the nose grows kind of horny on top. My boxer struggles with that and a tiny bit of bag balm rubbed in well alternated with vaseline works like magic. No more rhino nose. I don't think the last is your issue, but thought I'd mention it in case it would benefit anyone else reading.

It sounds like hyperkeratosis- common in mastiffs and a few other breeds.

Mateo had this, and after trying everything I could find (nothing worked), I pulled out a jar of Vaseline and tried that.

Voila! After 6 days, it was completely gone. He now has a smooth, normally pigmented nose. :)

Now, I just apply a touch every few days or so, just to keep it smooth.

I put whatever oil is handy at the moment on Jade's nose. She gets a build up of what looks like dark scales. Keeping it moist and oiled up seems to keep it from happening.

So glad I found this thread, as my 1 yr old Bullmastiff has just recently started to have this issue, and I was wondering how to deal with it.

When I say any oil I do mean food grade stuff BTW. Like pure mineral, coconut, olive, canola oils or even lip balm. I make a balm with coconut oil and honey with a tiny bit of Oil of oregano. I warm it all up mix it together and pour it in a handy dispenser like a breath mint tin and put it in the refrigerator until it gets back to solid. Don't stick this in your pocket or you will have a mess but it stays a solid at room temps and I use that for my lips and her nose and those ugly elbow callouses. It works great.

That's a great idea Mike! For whatever reason, our EM love love loves lip balm! I think he thinks that if I'm putting it in my mouth he should have it on his :). I don't really want him licking my lip balm so I always dab one tiny drop on the top of his nose so he's not left out. We were at Lowe's once and I didn't pack enough treats...oh no! We were waiting at the check out and he was anxious so I brought him to a sit and to focus with lip balm hahahaha...got some weird looks that day! No crusty noses here ;)

So 10-30 Mobil 1 won't work well? ;)
