My inlaws found their new dog. She's not a chow. Unfortunately the budget just wasn't there for a pup from a breeder, and, well, see my previous rant about rescues for why that wasn't happening.

Coco was hit by a car in the city of Syracuse almost exactly 4 weeks ago, and turned into a local animal hospital for care when no owners stepped forward. Although I suspect the owner may have been unofficially IDed as the hospital had an awefull lot of data on her background. At any rate, although no bones were broken in the accident apparently her internal injuries were bad enough that it was touch and go for the first two weeks. But they pulled her through and put her up for adoption where my Inlaws found her:

She's a year old. Listed as a "pit mix", and is a liver brindle in color. I didn't get her weight, but she's just barely knee high on me, so not big. She was spooky when we first got there (see the tucked tail in the first two pictures), but by the time we were getting ready to leave I was apparently not allowed to do so as she'd draped herself, very firmly, across my lap. Listed as good with cats and kids and other dogs, she did fine with my niece and nephew and wasn't interested in doing more than touching noses with their cats. We've not introduced her to any of the family's dogs yet, we want her to settle in a bit, and then my pair of nut balls will be the LAST ones she meets....

Oh, that's good news - for the dog, and your inlaws. Sounds like it was meant to be...

Something about the third pic reminds me very much of a Vizsla; wonder if she may have some in her as well... anyway, she looks like a real sweetheart. :)

I was kinda thinking on the same lines. They're calling her "pit x lab", cause my MIL wasn't keen on getting a pit (though now that Coco has stolen her heart thats suddenly not an issue lol), but something in her lines had me thinking Vizsla, or something similer.

Congrats! I just love a happy story. Her build looks a lot like Kismets' another "pit somethingandother". Keep us updated would love to see how she grows.

I will! The whole family are dog people, so if she really does prove to be good with other dogs we'll be seeing alot of her (and if she doesn't its ok, it just means that we don't bring our dogs over with us).

I will say, dispite the tucked tail, she otherwise came across as fairly bomb proof. One of the cats swatted her nose and she just sighed and laid back down. And when the doorbell rang she sat up to watch, but didn't startle or cower. My niece squeeling at getting her toes licked didn't bother Coco either.

Yay! Coco is such a beautiful girl. It looks like her and your in-laws will have a fantastic life together.
