Cats and Revolution

So my daughter rescued a little kitten from our woods a couple weeks ago. So of course it now lives with us :)

It immediately went to the vet and of had fleas... So it and our existing cat both got a dose of revolution. The kitten was not flea infested, and was in our house only about an hour before we took it to the vet. I washed everything and sprayed the floors and after treatment it was quarantined in the laundry room for 3 or 4 days.

Now the vet said we needed to redose both cats after 2 weeks, but everything I've read says a dose is effective for 30 days. I get that eggs may hatch after 2 weeks, but wouldn't the dose they got kill those fleas as well as redosing them would?

In my experience revolution is a bit less effective against fleas then advantage but i had also thought you have to wait 30 days.

I was adopted by a stray kitten last year about this time, she was full of ticks and fleas, I didn't have to re- dose her until the next month and everyone was fine. I wonder why your Vet said that, besides Revolution is expensive ( I use it on both my cats)and I would worry about over dosing them

I thought it was weird... I'm not redosing them as the recommendation is 30 days. And Revolution is effective not only for adult fleas but also eggs.

I wouldn't redose any more than per the package... and the package is probably conservative anyway, too (i.e. redose in 30 means it probably is good for 45 at least). Our house is miraculously flea-free, but we have brought fleas home from other places before - one dose of flea-juice (any of the spot-ons, we rotate them around), did some laundry laundry and put some powder and/or spray on bedding, that took care of it. No repeats/redosing.

You could put down some DE dust (diatomaceous earth), too, just avoid breathing in the dust when you put it down.

That's exactly what I did. We quarantined her for 3 days after treatment, treated my adult cat as she is indoors only and is not regularly treated, sprayed the carpets and did lots of laundry. I haven't seen a flea since so I'm sure we are good. I may treat after about 30-45 days to be on the safe side, but then likely not again.
