Cane Corso "cherry eye"

Cane Corso "cherry eye"

Hello unfortunately my suit baby got "cherry eye" and we are under therapy and next week we are going to surgery for "interment".

Both doctor and breeder (friend) told me that is something usual and not very serious.

I am very anxious because of full anesthesia and she is so young. Thank God I we have a great doctor who I know 15 years now (with my previous dogs) and I trust her!

Anyone with "cherry eye" experience before and "interment" surgery?

It isn't un-common in mastiff breeds. The debate seems to come in with the method to fix. If you trust your vet then go with their methods and you should be all fixed up in no time.

Thanks for the respond.

She has it on the one eye. A few days ago it "pop up" and on the other eye but in a few hours it disappear ... Now we are under medication (preparation for surgery) and on Tuesday we have an appointment to the doctor. I hope not to appear and to other eye again or at least if it's going to appear again, to be now, before surgery.

I'll keep you update

Hello everyone. We did the surgery yesterday, everything went well although she had very difficult anesthesia, she did retrogression (I don't if it's the correct word medically - she had stomach fluids out of her mouth and nose) and the surgery was very difficult because her tissue and skin is very strong/hard, but as I said thank God everything went well and I took her home last night.

She is now under meditation, she wears funnel around her neck which she hates it and she sleeps a lot, because she is in pain.

Doctor told me that they look and the other eye and from what the can say, it doesn't seem to be ready to pop out too.

I hope in about 10/12 days she'll be able to run here and there again.

:)

Re: Cane Corso "cherry eye"

My puppy is 4 months and he had the cherry eye 3 weeks ago. I thought it was becuase of the road trip we went on. I took him to the vet and they flushed his eye out and perscribed some drops. The eye cleared up after 4 days and he was back to normal.

I'm glad you dog is well but cherry eyes is hereditary and some people breed they dogs that had cherry eye, it's pass on from parents.

Unfortunatelly this what I was afraid, happened. Yesterday at morning "cherry" pop out again at the other eye :(

My poor baby :( ..

Vet told me that we'll wait in case it pop back in (although she believes it's not very possible).
Because she had difficult surgery, it's a big risk to take another surgery so soon, so we'll wait for the one to recover and then we'll see..
