Canada Mastiff breeder

hi there,
I will be purchasing my first mastiff this summer. Quality mastiff breeders seem very rare and litters seem even rarer.
I came across this website. http://www.canadamastiff.ca and they just had a new litter available.

When I called them to ask questions regarding their litter and everything seemed to go okay

I am super paranoid about getting a unhealthy mastiff puppy. Has anyone dealt with these people? My instincts say it will be okay...but I have no idea what to think anymore

btw, you put the link in wrong, its CANADA MASTIFFS

My instincts say run away quickly.

They talk about all sorts of health problems....that are THEIR problem not yours (milk fever?? Seriously??), but only barely mention things like hip displaysa and NEVER mention if the parents are health tested. They also never give the parents full names so you can check health testing for yourself.

THeir list of dog names.....looks like a name list out of a baby name book?!

CKC registration is great and all, but it doesn't mean a THING about the parents, not really. Are the champions?? Or working dogs?? They don't tell you a THING about them.

Their "Pet stories" page is about as generic as it comes.....

If you decide to look further at this breeder questions I'd want to know the answer too:

Health testing! This is a HUGE must no matter if you only want a pet. The list of tests expected for BMs and EMs. They need to provide you with the parents full names so you can check the results on the OFA site yourself, or provide you with copies of the Pennhip and other lab results.

Are the parents conformation champions? Or decorated working dogs? I'd be willing to accept ONE parent as neither, but not both. And no "champion lines" doesn't count.

A copy NOW of their health guarantee and puppy contract.

Where are you in Canada? There are some excellent breeders in Canada but that is not one of them. PM me if you don't want to say publicly where you are and I will send you some links of breeders who I have spoken to directly and who work hard for the breed. I have spoken to that breeder btw and they really aren't a good breeder. Another to avoid is Giant Dreams in Chatham Ontario. From what I understand, they are just getting into registered dogs but they breed a large number of mastiff breeds and they are a byb. http://www.giantdreams.ca/ They really tick me off.

thanks for the replies

I had mix feelings about them as well...seeing as that I do not know too much about selecting a breeders, I thought I'd get some advice.
I have contacted everyone from the Breeders listing section of the mastiffcanada.org. I believe Tailcreek has a litter coming late 2013 or early 2014. I also contacted Fortressmastiff, who will have pups available to take home Sept/Oct.

Also, I'm not looking for a "Champion breed' at all, I dont plan to show or breed my mastiff. I'm just looking for a companion. I honestly did not know how difficult this would be..

A pet pup is fine, but if they aren't doing SOMETHING with their dogs then they have no POINT to their breeding, and no check on the conformation and working ability of their dogs, which in turn leads to physical and temperment problems. You don't want a breeder who's breeding "just because" or "because we can sell the pups" or "so we can show the kids what the cycle of life is" or any one of hte other similer reasons for breeding. If you really care about the health of your pup you really want someone who's honestly trying to improve the breed, and that means someone who's actively doing something with their dogs to ensure that the dog is of good quality.

i know nothing about the mentioned breeder so this is not meant to be any kind of endorsement or anything, but i wouldn't discredit a breeder based on the number of dogs they have or include. a greater number of studs and dams can allow for a breeder to be more objective in choosing their breedings instead of being limited to one stud and one or two dams. not saying every breeder with lots of dogs is doing anything right, but must more needs to be considered when choosing or not choosing a breeder than the number of dogs they have.
best of luck in your search.

You are 100% correct.. RUN AWAY
I just paid almost $2000 for a pup through them. That was for the pup and the flight to ship him to me. She now refused to give me a pup and my money. I'm going through a dispute and claim through paypal as we speak. TheY now go by the name Iron Giants Kennel. They are crooks and scam artist. They run a puppy mill. They have 25 plus dogs in a mini home with kennels. They are NOT a repertable breeder at all. They are not nice to deal with. I don't recommend them.to anyone.
