Bruschi has a limp

Hey everyone, just wanted to see if anyone has had the same or similar experience. Bru is 9 months old now and started having a limp about 4 weeks ago. hes gained an average of 10 pounds per month since weve had him. Hes now about 80 lbs, We picked him up at 10 weeks old. Normally we would bring him to the dog park on saturdays for about an hour, we havent brought him for the last 3 weeks, other than that he will run periodically in the back yard. We did bring him to the vet and he thought we should wait and see, my opinion is that its more than likely just growing pains. Just a side note, he doesnt seem to be in any pain when he decides to run like a crazy man. Just curious to see if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

Didn't your vet advise you to get an x-ray? It would be better to exclude the more serious causes for limping. If it is growing pains, cutting back on his food should help, even if he gets skinny. You could also try some supplements like vitamin C, omega 3, chondroitin and glucosamine etc... For joint support i like Glyco Flex 3 and for pain and inflamation NutriFlex Rx works like a charm.

Is the limp in one particular leg or does it alternate between his legs? Are his joints inflamed or sensitive to the touch?

Your vet should want to do an x-ray to rule out pano. If they don't.... I'd probably find a new vet. Any vet who doesn't want to x-ray to discover the source of chronic limping is questionable in my book.

And be sure you're NOT supplementing any extra calcium.

Do a search for "panosteitis" and see if that sounds like what he's going through.

4 weeks seems like a long time for that to be going on, though.

Your vet sounds like mine... they worry more about me complaining about costs, so opt for the 'wait & see' options... I have to push them to dig deeper. I didn't with out last dog - and at age 9 he had back pain that we decided to give anti-inflammatories and "wait and see" about... which gave the tumor in his spine time to grow to an inoperable size. :(

Not saying that's what you have at all... most likely it's growing pains, but if you want a definitive answer - I'm suggesting it may be up to you to PUSH for it.

might be best if he didn't do this until the limp clears up , where is the limp , front or rear ? even if it's pano I think they shouldn't run around when it's flared up ..... if it is pano , rimadyl should help when it's really bothering him , i'm surprised the vet didn't give you any to help clear up whatever inflammation is there .......
