Boerboel Spaying questions.

So the time has come to get Lucia spayed. She has had 3 heats now and is big enough I feel comfortable having it done. It will be very nice to not have to deal with false pregnancies anymore.

So questions, are there any special procedures a vet needs to take when spaying Boerboels? Are they sensitive to the anasthetics or anything else?

Some say ask for the grey hound procedure for anesthesia. I print out this and give it to the vet.

It is said they are very sensitive to anesthesia, many have just not waken up or suffer heart failure during recovery. That is why I was so panicky when I had Jade spayed.

I've heard that a lot as well from people and have always avoided spaying and other procedures because of it.
I wouldn't be doing the spay if Lucia didn't have such insane hormone swings with her false pregnancies. I'll definitely print that out and take it in with me when we go. I did find a vet down here that works with a lot of Mastiffs and has done a few BB's.

We had Lucia's Spay done on 12/21, hoping to catch it before she went into heat as usual mid January. She had already started swelling a bit inside from what the vet said, but everything went smoothly. 3 Days later Lucia was ready to bounce off the walls again, it was incredibly difficult to get her to stay calm and inactive after always doing 3-5 miles a day plus training and agility work. We had the staples removed last monday and area taking it easy this week to give her some more time to recuperate. I'm so glad it's all over and she didn't have any serious complications.
