So like Ive mentioned Im thinking about getting another puppy... and Ive been thinking about bitework. I cant use mongo for bitework, he doesnt have the personalitly for it "whimp" LOL

But Im not sure how to find a good place... Ive looked online but nothing really comes up.

Does anyone know how to go about finding a place?

or if they know someone in Houston that does it?

I've been wondering the same thing lately...

I think my female CC would be great for bitework and protection training, in my limited experience I think she has the perfect personality for it. My male CC makes a lot of noise, but he never 'goes for it' when given the chance. :)

I've thought about maybe looking into a Schutzhund club, but they are, naturally, very focused on GSDs, and I've heard that they aren't always welcoming to other breeds. I haven't, as of yet, seriously started to look into anything, so I have no personal experience there. Please let me know if you happen to find anything?

Yeah I looked up the Schutzhund club and its nothing but GSD. Even if they let me join I would probably feel like an outcast LOL Every time I look up Bite Work Training in Houston all I get is dog attacks and dog bites.

Maybe there is another term used for this?

Mongo if you wanted to try schutzhund training with your dog you could contact the club and find out what kind of dogs they have. I live in Indiana the clubs around here do let other dogs in the club but they don't really advertise it . Dogs like pitt bulls, dobermans, cc, and other mastiff breeds. I know chicago has a form called chicago working dogs that talk about protective training, bite work, and schutzhund sports. I am not sure where you live but I just thought I would share. Hope this helps you

Thanks JK, so far that’s the only place I can find.

Does anyone know about how much it cost? I was just reading a website for protection work and they have a 3 day seminar for $4500!!! That seems outrageous!

I would contact the Schutzhund Club, or look into Ring Sports in the area. Talk to them about trainers, get an idea what may work for you, maybe set up a time to go watch them.
I know the Schutzhund Club here is very welcoming of breeds outside of Mals and GSD's. They are willing to help out and ppl are just happy to have other ppl working their dogs. You never know until you try. Feeling like an outcast can also help in proving your breed can ;) , give you that push to succeed.
There are some Corso doing Schutzhund, as well as French Ring out there.
I am hoping to do French Ring with a Corso one day, it is part of my down the road plans.
My current baby doesn't have the drive, but will rock as a Therapy dog and kick at Rally and OB.
