  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Average heat legnth ?

My 9 month Neo Mastiff just began her first heat.

So far , it’s somewhat miserable for both of us and we are on day 1.

How long does the bleeding phase of heats in big dogs usually last? Google has tons of differing answers but I wanted to hear from the experiences of other mastiff owners.

Also...is there anything they sell to cover the carpet in a room of the house to protect it ??? She hates wearing the diapers but while inside we only have so many options as we have carpet. Any advice welcome.

Have any of your female mastiffs tried to escape the yard while in heat? That’s another worry of mine bc she will probably be outside a bit more during this time. The yard is fenced but if she wanted to she could dig under it.

Thanks!

I think your bigger worry is male dogs getting to her. They can certainly mate through a fence and she shouldn't be outside unsupervised. I know that's inconvenient, but it's best for your girl. As I recall the entire heat process was about a month or a little more, with active bleeding being about two and a half weeks for my girl. We have hardwood floors, but I covered the furniture with waterproof mattress pads. If you haven't had a female before, I'm adding a link about pyometra. It's something you need to be aware of and address quickly if you see any symptoms. It can happen to any female dog that's intact.

Thankyou ! I’ll research the pyrometra.
I intend to get her fixed eventually .
