Sleeping

So as you can see hes grown a lot! Still super sweet. Loves to play outside with our boxer. Loves the kids, no rough play with them. Very alert. Not allowed on furniture, or the backof our house (bedrooms) kennel trained. His lab puppy fur is no longer fluffy, although it is long. Listens extremely well unless he is excited, like coming inside from the back yard. That is our hardest part, he'll sit, but he is so excited its a scooting sit. :) no jumping on people, waits while we fill his food bowl, humans first in and out of the house.

Anything to look out for or advice or support of the excited sit? Haha

Love that coat!
Pretty puppy!!

About the excited sit... I'd say you might just have to wait it out - it should calm down as he gets older and calmer. What ever you do, don't add excited energy into the excited sit... kids are good at adding excitement (running, laughing, etc.), so I wouldn't worry about his excitement when they're excited - not sure you'd be able to do anything about it at that point. When the rest of the house is calm, how does he do?

I'd get in a calm place myself, first, have him come to you, then ask for a sit - and freeze... if he moves, just stand there... wait for a split-second of alert attention without the scooting (even if it's just due to confusion over you not moving) - then Release and Praise! Each time, when he finally takes a breath and stops scooting, wait an itty bitty bit longer before you Release and Praise, so he knows it's the sitting still that will get him what he wants (Praise, love and attention!)

We often have to ask for a calm 'sit & wait' outside the door, before Denna is allowed inside... that way she gets in the habit of leaving excitement outside, and being calm inside. When guests are over, it's very hard for her to start out calm... but she gets there. She knows she'll get sent outside if she doesn't calm down (and she's 2, so it's a little easier for her to calm down).

Sounds like he's a real sweetie!!
Thanks for the update!

Its only when coming inside. When hes actually inside the house he listens fine. Its just when hes coming in (waiting at the door) inside hes calm and great. I just wanted to make sure it was ok. I take training him serious because I dont want any negative actions. He only gets antsy inside when theres a knock on the door or a strange sound, or he has to go outside (all good reasons)

Hes actually mixed with lab, so we are watching to see what falls where. So far his face is presa, and size haha, but he has a thick long coat, with lots of extra skin, and when he gets scared the hair on his spin stands up, you can see it very clearly. His tail is very thick and long and it smacks into everything and makes a hugh thud. Hes very smart. Very sweet, and loves to sleep on his belly.

Thank you, I agree. His face is very presa, but his coat type is more lab, with how long it is. We will see as he grows :)

UPDATE!!

Ares is very close to 6 months. He is HUGE! We will probably have him weighed Saturday. He went from just a tad shorter than our boxer, to a definite height difference. His head is growing eveny with his body, and his tail is growing huge along with the rest.

Weve been working on socializing, and walking etiquette. He walks with a stroller and a bike next to him with no issues. He is in a fear stage, so anything he finding threatening he is all ears, but weve been working on continuing to walk, and not stop and gaurd. So far he can do that to kids, but he still wants to gaurd around other dogs (small and big). Should I make him sit and make him relax, or should we walk on? The reason we sitis because he because he immediately wants to go towards the other dog, and I dont want to scare the other owner or other dog.

Ares is VERY well behaved in our the house, still waits to be feed and given the food. His excited sit (only when coming inside) is MUCH better. He sits more calmly at the door. He has started lifting his front paws when excited outside, but we sternly tell him no, and he stops. He plays really well with the kids inside (tug of war). Hes pretty much a lazy boy inside..

Ive noticed that if hes scared if I go first (sliding doors at stores, car, bathtub) he will follow right behind.

Is there something I can do to control where in the yard he poops? He poops right in the front haha its gross and I would rather it not be so close to the house...

Alright, ill post pictures and weight with in the rest of the week :)
