Anxiously waiting

I'm not sure if I should post here or in the the general mastiff forum, but here goes....

Hi, any advice is welcomed as I am new to all of this. We are on the waiting list for a fawn male. There is only one in this litter. Our breeder has informed us the stud owner gets first pick (as she is picking a female so it doesn't change anything for us). I've never gotten a pure bred, and never bought from a breeder (rescued in the past), but I understand this is "normal". My frustration is that I want to know if the little guy I'm getting pictures of weekly is actually coming home with me. He sure is cute and I have a very loving home to offer him but I know it doesn't matter at this point. They have until the end of the 8 weeks to decide which puppy they're claiming?? Is this normal? I'm sure it is but I want to be able to get super excited and count down the days till my little bundle of cuddles comes home with me! How do people deal with this? We still have 3 weeks before the puppies are ready to go to their forever homes. UGH!! It's absolute torture!

I know I'm still new here but there's nothing I'd love more than if everyone would cross their fingers, paws, say a prayer, etc. I have almost everything I need to welcome this little guy home…everything except him. :( Please send you best!

Most breeders, well, any who're decent, have a larger requirement than just gender in their pick of puppy, and many of the qualities that they're looking for are un-identifiable in a puppy so young. So its not unusual for those decisions to not be made untill 6-8 weeks that being the earliest those qualities start to show through.

Have you discussed having the the breeder pick a puppy with you based on temperment rather than color? You're much more likely to get a suitable dog that way.

Yes, from a good breeder there is always a waiting list, generally prior to them even being born. and most pics are made between 5 and 7 weeks.
