Papasan cushions from Pier One 49 x 49" and 54 x 54" $50-$70 (might also be easy to find for cheap on CL): http://www.pier1.com/catalog/browse/514.952.seating

Baby/toddler mattresses from Ikea 52 x 27.5" $30-$90 (once again, you can probably find them on CL): http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/childrens_ikea/18682/

Ikea also has adjustable size matteresses (not sure how that works) but they go from Min. length: 47 1/4 " Max. length: 74 3/4 " Width: 38 1/4 " and cost $60-$120 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/childrens_ikea/18724/

Cheap puppy beds can be found at Costco, lately they're had 40" round beds for $20, sometimes they get rectangular beds in for about $20-25 I think.

The Costco ones are great as the cover is removeable and washable. The only thing I would warn people about is they have cedar in them, while I like the smell it made my daughter crazy!

Our solution: pick up futon matress from people getting rid of it. Fold in half. Viola! Mastiff bed! If it gets dirty and i'm a) ambitious: unzip cover and wash, b) lazy: refold so the dirt is on the inside. The couple was happy to be rid of the futon matress so we got it for free, plus it doesn't pack down or get lumpy like a lot of dog beds.

I agree about the futon! If you live near a college town you can always find some for free. One of Moose's favorite places to sleep is on the futon my husband and I kept from my college years.

Another idea: when looking for padding for the bottom of the crate it blew my mind how much a pad cost (especially for the lack of quality). We found a foam mattress pad, twin size, on sale at walmart. I just cut it, doubled it up and covered with a soft quilt. It turned out much better than the $60 crate pad at a pet store.

Misc. 053.jpgMisc. 055.jpgHabitat Restore, Salvation Army & Goodwill sell couches for cheap. We have a chewer; any fabric, any piece of furniture. This couch lasted almost 2 weeks before she started to eat it.
We're considering Kurandas, actually making them ourselves. Let's see her eat THAT!

I thought of this a few days ago for Dozer, and he loves it! I took an old tie blanket and stuffed some old pillows in it :) good enough for me. and didn't have to pay anything :)

Lol... we don;t have room for her to have her own couch! Before we had kids and the dogs had their own room they had a futon.

Neobull: They have THREE couches and one overstuffed chair. And Bella has chewed on every couch in that room for all 7 of her years. All couches, dog beds, comforters, pillows have known the power of the Bella Monster. The only thing she doesn't destuff is toys, and the overstuffed chair. She doesn't like the chair because she likes to stretch out.

All three of mine live for de-stuffing toys, it's like a competitive sport... everything else is generally safe.

I've used baby matresses for Thor in the past, prior to that I used a big THICK blanket. This time around I am going to try to find a futon.

A friend of our used a crib matress then she sewed up a zip on cordura cover. It worked great. and was practically indestructable.

We have NO carpet and leather furniture (doesn't soak up any doggie smells) but I wanted an area rug so bad and finally it hit me like a ton of bricks. I bought 9 cream colored shag rugs and laid them all together to make a huge area rug that fits piece by piece in to my washer when it starts to smell doggie. Also for a bed I have been thinking about making a cover for a baby pool that will hold a matching covered papasan chair cushion inside and both covers be washable. People who come over say my house isn't homey because I dont have anything that can not be washed but they never say it smells like dog and we have 5

Shove a bunch of old pillows in a old dog bed cover, or sew a new one up. Saw this idea on pinterest. Haven't tried it, but it seemed like a good idea.
WE have an old memory foam mattress topper that I've cut to size and am now looking for a cover for. They have them on Etsy, but they are still like $40 just for the cover.

My sil gave me her daughters old crib mattress & you know the dog will NOT lay on it, they prefer their dog beds ... I need to just sell or donate it

Love the Costco beds, have a couple ... but here in FL where I am there are no Costcos around darn it!!

I got my mastiff a baby mattress. He will lay on it but prefers a bunch of blankets on it first. I find baby mattresses to be not only cheaper but also more supportive than most of the big fancy dog beds you see at pet stores. I sat on some of those expensive dog beds and my butt hit the floor hard.

All Costco beds all the time.
At 20$ I really don't care what happens in the end. We have them on every floor of our house and in the back of the truck ;)

for a cheap cover, find someone who can sew a straight seam preferably on a sewing machine, in exchange for free or trade, and hit your local upholstry fabric store remenants bin. Anything reasonably heavy duty will work fine, and cost you less than $20. Apollo doesn't have a bed as such, but I've recovered my SIL's mastiff cross's bed twice so far that way.
