Advice on transitioning

Hi Everyone,

So i have 2 cane corsos my girl Oreo just turned 11 months, 95lbs and my boy Kronos just turned 12 weeks, 25lbs. They have both mostly been fed kibble Acana but i want to transition into straight raw. So what i began to do is mix raw hamburger meat into their kibble and i have to say ive never seen my dogs more excited to eat. I have been doing this for about 3 days now and so far no diarrhea. My plan is to slowly add more raw and less kibble just so that i don't shock their system. i Also found a butcher thats willing to ground my chicken for free. my goal is to do 80% meat 10% bone and 10% organ. so ive read that i should feed my dogs 2-3% of their weight but does that apply to pups as well? i read that for pups i should feed them 10% of their weight but if thats the case Oreo is 95lbs that means i would feed 9lbs of meat a day i think that is way too much lol.
thanks for the help everyone

Pretty puppies!! Nothing like real food to get dogs excited about meal time. :)

The feeding guidelines are what you said: 10% of puppy weight, or 2-3% of adult weight, whichever is SMALLER.

That's just a starting point, though, once you get them eating all raw regularly, you can see if they're gaining "padding" on the ribs or getting too lean, and adjust the amounts as needed.

I think the bigger, more laid back the dog, the lower the percentage... Denna gets about 1.7% of her adult weight to maintain, and that's with 3-8 miles of walking a week (plus all her outside playtime). I do up her meals if we do any strenuous hiking, but only by a few ounces here and there.

I heard 2 - 3% of adult weight or for pups of their projected adult weight.

If you still have kibble then by all means use it up, I used it as training treats, but once it's gone I'd not buy any more. Theirs no point really. Just give them the meat they will be fine.

80/10/10 is about right and a good starting point.
Remember though that nothing is set in stone and ratios can vary and can also be worked out over a week or more so no need to be too precise.

The most important skill to pick up is poo gazing.
You will be able to tell exactly how their diet is going and if anything needs Justin's my the state of their poo.

Adorable pups! Welcome to the wonderful adventure of raw feeding!

Go very easy on the 10% organ meat the first couple of months. We made the mistake of introducing too much too soon and had to clean up some horrifically loose poops. 2 to 3% of adult body weight worked well for us - again watching the poop. If it loosens up it's most likely because you are over feeding. Pups need more during growth spurts but less when they hit a plateau. Plenty of advice in the RAW feeding sub-forum if you take the time to read back threads.

Welcome to raw feeding! I was just wondering how things are going?

Thank you. Things have been ok my big cane is being finicky about her chicken. She doesn't seem intrigued so now I'm giving her 15 minutes and then I take it away but I have to say since doing the switch her coat is so much shinier and soft. Her poop has small and hard every now and then she has a watery poop but I'm assuming it's cause her body is still adapting to the raw or maybe she ate something in the yard she is a trouble maker after all.
