I don't believe that cats should be allowed to roam free if you live in anew urban area. This means that my cats are exclusively indoor, or almost. On rare occasions I will let Taffy come outside if I can watch her. Skreea hasn't tried since she snuck out and got trapped last fall. I think Taffy was enjoying her time outside even if it was accompanied by 2 dogs trying to figure out why one of their kitties was outside.

I agree with you, cats should be kept indoors, both of mine are indoors and only Harry will try to go outside, but he is always supervised when he's out.

I grew up with two outdoor farm cats - they were the best cats.... always bringing birds and mice home (showing them to us, then letting them go... we'd often come home and open the garage door to birds flying out).

But, our last cat was a city cat, and we live in a neighborhood with a big park in the woods where some coyotes hang out. We also have big bald eagles floating around the area looking for "small game"... there are always multiple "lost cat" posters in the area. Our cat got supervised visits to the yard, but always came inside when we did. She did enjoy the sunshine and fresh grass, though, so I'm glad your kitty got some outside time, too! :)

That's sounds like the last cat that I did let outside. She was very offended when you threw her present (a mouse, usually but not always dead) back outside. Her disappearance/death was why I decided to not let cats free roam anymore. I don't want to feel like that again, especially since it is so easily avoidable.
