9 yo Bullmastiff lack of appetite and intestinal upset

Hello all, I am new to the forum and would like some input regarding my 9 yo Bullmastiff. We have had him for 3 years and for most of that time the only issues he dealt with were atopic dermatitis, which we have treated with Cyclosporin and diet changes. He’s been seen by multiple vets and dermatologists and we had it pretty well under control. About a month ago he started to develop a lack of appetite followed by diarrhea and vomiting. We immediately switched to a bland diet (which we have had to do before due to stomach upset with medications), but his appetite continued to decrease. We scheduled him with the vet and so far he has been in multiple times for blood testing, stool testing, and ultrasounds and they haven’t found anything. They are suspecting inflammatory bowel disease and currently we have him on prednisone, Tylan powder, Prilosec, cerenia, mirtazapine. I have tried all of the prescription canned foods and any other bland foods, but he is not interested and He keeps losing weight. For the past few days he was interested in fish so I gave him some grilled tilapia and grilled salmon! But yesterday he didn’t want it again. The vet is suggesting a referral to internal medicine to rule out intestinal cancer. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience or further advice? Looking for anything that could help out my loving boy. Thank you!

It sounds like it could be colitis. BUT, I would go with whatever your vet says to rule out intestinal cancer.

Once more serious causes have been ruled out, I would switch to raw if I was you and you haven't already done so. Dogs evolved to eat raw food over millions of years and it is easily the most healthy diet for them. Assuming no serious health problems such as cancer, raw food diet should drastically reduce any digestive issues and may even help with allergy/skin issues. I also wouldn't keep changing your dogs diet, because this will condition your dog to be a fussy eater and he will regularly refuse food. Repeatedly changing diet is also well known to cause stomach upset in dogs.
