8 week old DDB

I'm a newcomer to the forum, and a new DDB owner!
This is my little fellow, "Hugo", picked up from the breeder only 3 days ago. He has settled in beautifully and thinks playing with my 6 year old Border Collie and hanging off his tail is the greatest fun ever. Having never owned a giant breed, I am used to BC puppies that seem to be on a constant mix of caffeine and sugar. Hugo sleeps and sleeps, and is such a docile beautiful little guy.

Oh trust me, that face get coated in kisses on a daily basis, that little nose is just so scrummy!!! It is so hard making him go to his own bed at night, I got soft and let him sleep with me on Wednesday night and now he thinks my bed is much better than his own. Oops!

Uh oh...now he's had a taste of sleeping with you. Is his sleep arrangements in your bedroom? He will sleep better if he is close to you.

Yes he's got a pen set up with his bed and toys in the corner of our room, he cries for a little while but has been settling quicker each night. I just put him to bed and he settled within 5 minutes and is now snoring away happily. He's been very good with sleeping through the night, and only had a wee on his first night - and used the doggy wee pad in his pen for that. When he's loose in the house, he runs to the pad in his pen and goes on that. I am very lucky!!!!

A bit of advice...training the pup to go on the pads in the pen could hinder training him to go outside. Are you not able to take him out every 2 hours?

Unfortunately not while I'm at work. While home I take him out, and he is spending large portions of his time outside and always goes on the grass. If I'm late in taking him out, he cries and lets me know that he needs to go, and does outside every time ;) At the moment I can't leave him out with the other dog while we're not around, because he's still small enough to get through the bars of the fence, so he uses his pads then.

Is there a neighbor or friend who can take him out every 2 hours while you're at work? Are you able to hire a dog sitter to take him out?

I understand, you have to do what you have to do...

My parents come over when myself and my partner are both working, but can't stay or be back and forth for the whole day. So he is on his own for only a couple of hours either side of us leaving and getting home from work.

DDB puppies are the cutest! (Not that I'm biased or anything...) :)

Congrats on the new baby!

They sure are the cutest :)
I have to go away for 9 days for work as of tomorrow, so he'll be left in the very capable hands of my OH... but I still don't want to leave him!!!

He's adorable! Holy cow. Our friends have a DDB pup- such a cute dog- hold on to your hats these boys grow like weeds. Gator is 10 months younger than Mario and was his size at 5 months old!

I don't want him to grow up, he is so cuddly at the moment, but I am excited to see how big he ends up. His dad has a huge head and very solid, and mum is a large girl as well.
