Hello Mastiff Community,
We were so grateful to have found such an amazingly helpful community just before Phoenix's arrival 2 weeks ago, and cannot express our thanks.
When Phoenix arrived she was eating a mixture of Alpo and Pedigree Puppy from the breeder. We began the process of switching her to Wellness Core Puppy the next morning. We had a great transition taking it very slow.
Days 1 - 4: 75% old food 25% Wellness Core Puppy
Days 5 - 8 : 50% old food 50% Wellness Core Puppy
Days 9 - 11: 75% Wellness Core Puppy 25% old food
Day 12: 100% Wellness Core Puppy
We chose that particular brand based off of this article I read on dogfoodadvisor.com.
Topic: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition
The author posts a list of large breed puppy foods, that she personally called the companies to obtain accurate calcium readings. At the same time we also decided to switch our 7 year old English Bulldog from Nutro Ultra Adult to Earthborn Holistic Meadow Feast.
I have been researching the best food for large breed puppies and now seem to be getting mixed reviews about the Wellness Core Puppy.
According to the article we based our decision off of:
Wellness Core Puppy received a rating of 5, the calcium was 1.23%, 3.24g/1,000 kcal.
Earthborn Holistic Meadow Feast received a rating of 5, calcium 1.20%, 3.41g/1,000 kcal.
I just purchased a 14 lb bag of Wellness Core puppy and 15 lb of the Earthborn to switch our Bully to, ideally we want both dogs on the same food.
My question: Is Earthborn Holistic Meadow Feast or Wellness Core Puppy a better food for our large breed pup?
Also just to add we are giving her a variety of soft and crunchy treats. So far they have all been all grain free. We also just bought a bag of smokehouse duck chips, and rawhide free pork chomps wrapped in sweet potato. We would love to hear what you all give to your doggies for treats, and hopefully get some healthier treats.
