Fear stage or just weak nerves?

My 10 months old boerboel puppy is usually afraid of people(even me) carrying object e.g a bag, box he runs away barking and avoids me.Otherwise he is very brave and readily deters trespassers from my property the only problem is he becomes timid during walks and is afraid to meet strangers outside the compound and hides behind me or even wants to run away when approached. I have tried treats during walks but he is too nervous even to eat.Does he suffer from weak nerves or its just a fear period ?And what can i do to make him more confident during walks?any help would do at this point.

Yes this can be a fear stage, they can have many different fears,
With the bags and boxes, leave a box on the ground with high value treats or toy whichever is his preference, let him approach and sniff, dont him, hes got to see its not a threat.do it every day.
He sounds like hes aloof with strangers, id walk him as much as possible, dont geteople to approach or touch him, yes they need to be social but that doesnt mean everyone needs to touch him, he needs to ignore the person that approaches you,
To start with i would just walk him, keep a distance from people and let him see its ok.
My middle cc was aloof, but he would ignore, its our job to tell people not to touch.
Work through the fear stages, make it fun, train every day,
My eldeast cc was the biggest wimp, now hes scared of nothing, amazing loyal gaurdian.
