Hi All,
With my female DDB now approaching 20 months old I am considering introducing a fast day or at least a half fast day in the next few months.
With my previous DDB I did a half day fast where I would skip her morning meal and only give her a beef knuckle bone that she could only gnaw on and not eat. She would then get a meal in the evening. This feeding schedule seemed to work well.
Another thing I am considering is if I should switch her from 2 meals per day to a single meal.

FYI Fódhla is quite active compared to my previous DDB. We are jogging on average 5 - 6km (about 3.5 miles) in the morning usually takes between 25 - 30 mins and then similar distance walk in evening at weekends walks are longer. She is on a raw diet which consists of chicken, beef, pork, lamb, turkey, duck, raw eggs, tripe (mostly beef but occasionally lamb) sardines and table scraps.

Opinions and feed back to would be appreciated.

More activity = More nutritional need.
Try a rest day. Fasting is always a good thing. Twice a day is fine. Observe diligently.

Hi All,
It is over a year since my post but I have since moved her to 1 meal per day which I feed in the morning and I am happy with how it is working out.
I have not introduced a fasting day as a rule but have on occasion if she had any gastro issue with soft runny stool.
FYI she is a RAW fed dog.

Hi there.. I am interested to hear about your dog doing 1 meal per day. My 3 y/o cane corso (also fed raw) refuses to eat if I'm not home, and I leave the home at 530 am so morning eating is clearly not an option at this point. I have been trying to feed her her breakfast + dinner all in one meal at night. She eats it fine but sometimes I wonder if this is too much for her stomach to do all 4 pounds in one sitting. Did your dogs do this 1 meal their whole life?

Hi Dolcecorso, I originally feed my dogue 2 x per day. This was usually at 12 hour intervals 8am & 8pm but not always. Just before she turned 2 y/o I switched to 1 meal. I feed 1.2 kgs (2.65 lbs) raw in one sitting now and in my opinion its working out great. I would not think 4lbs is too much for a big corso to consume in one sitting.
