Spay question

so Millie had her spay today. She’s 21 months and had 2 heats (and 2 phantoms too:confused:)

Millie is my second dog, my first being a DDB who was spayed after 1 heat cycle because of my lack of knowledge of large breeds.

She’s just let me look at her incision and I am gonsmacked! It’s only about 5cm long. Mollies was soooo long in comparison. That must have been about 6 years ago now (she only lived until age 5 :() I have also since changed Vet.

Why such a big difference? Looking back, we had problems for a few months with slight incontinence following that spay although it did resolve itself.

Have procedures changed within the last few years? I just can not comprehend why the size of the incision is so very different, particularly as Millie is older than our previous dog was at point of spay so therefore bigger!

Ella's was significantly larger than that. It might be because she was older - four years, and had more fat. I know that the more fat the more they have to dig for everything. I think it also depends on the method used. Was it done laparoscopically?

i'd guess they did it with a laparoscope ? possibly only a ovariectomy ...... how long did they tell you to keep her down ?

Denna's was about 5 or 6 inches long.
She was only about 10 months when she had hers done, though (she's our first girl and first full mastiff - also our fist dog where we weren't under an adoption contract requiring an early "fix"... I know better, now).

My vet did such a clean job on the incision, that she doesn't even have a scar... I almost with she would have given her a tattoo, 'cause you can't tell she's been spayed just by looking (which I hope never becomes an issue with licensing or boarding facilities).

Here's a pic of hers:

I’ll post one if Millie’s when she lets me look at it for long enough; she’s a bit cautious with it at the moment. Well, I thought I wasn’t naive this time round but I’m now thinking I am....... I don’t know if it was a laparoscope? I didn’t even think to ask! I phoned the vet...... who I trust implicitly....... and booked a spay! I have to go back after 2 days and then again in 10. Strictly lead walks only in this time.

She is feeling so sorry for herself and is whining off and on. When I got home I realised that they’d given me 4 days of tabs in case of sickness but they didn’t mention painkillers. So I called right away and was advised to give a 500mg paracetamol and then syringe in some milk. Hopefully that will help her with any pain.

One actor called another guy a "Sam Spade." A third actor replied, "Sorry that he can't have puppies." Pic--Something interesting, perhaps a crumb from a hot dog bun ???022.JPG

oh poor babies! I hate seeing or hearing of an animal in pain. I do know its necessary evil to fix our pups. And its a leaser evil then allowing them to become breeding machine.
I just wish there was a less evasive way to deal with this... I guess the surgery has gotten better over the years.
HOw's Millie doing? I hope she's a bit better.

Surgery sure has improved over the years....I decided not to neuter Mr. Chev for assorted reasons. Best to you all !!
